Strategy Manager, Africa 

The Position

You as the successful candidate, will be part of a high-performing and high-impact team that supports the ongoing development and implementation of the Africa Strategy for Diagnostics. You will play a critical role in unlocking the power of the organization to help deliver access to IVD for the African continent. You will collaborate closely with commercial teams, business functions, strategic teams and a broad variety of external stakeholders.

The role is location agnostic on the African continent* and reports to the Director of Strategy & Transformation, Africa.

The Strategy Manager, Africa, delivers value to Roche Diagnostics in Africa by:

  • Closely monitoring healthcare market trends with high relevance to the strategy
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to co-create and manage strategic initiatives and work packages
  • Coordinating and synchronizing strategic plans to ensure maximum impact and best resource allocation
  • Coordination and provision of project management and administration for strategic initiatives and work packages
  • Supporting the internal co-creation process to keep the strategy up to date, in line with evolving market trends.
  • Ensuring that regular monitoring and measurement takes place within assigned implementation streams and work packages towards defined milestones
  • Provide project and matrix leadership consistent with the Roche values and Operating principles
  • Seek to inspire and ignite passion in others to create sustainable change and to leverage the efforts of a diverse range of people and teams
  • Supporting the strategic planning process in close collaboration with the commercial teams and other stakeholders

Requirements for the position/ Candidate profile:

Professional and Technical Requirements:

  • University degree level qualification in a relevant discipline, typically +5 years experience in Commercial, Business Development or Strategic Roles
  • Broad business acumen of the diagnostics / healthcare market and its activities
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. MSc; MBA; or higher degree qualification in a relevant area would be desirable

Experience, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Experience working in an cross-functional, multi-cultural and matrix environment
  • Structured thinking, proven problem-solving skills
  • Strategic planning and strategic methodologies
  • Experience of leading change, negotiating and managing conflict
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate complex topics simply and articulately to various audiences
  • Proficiency to work with senior leaders
  • Fluency in English and (ideally also other languages) is a must
  • Strong organizational, communication, and networking skills
  • Strong facilitation skills advantageous
  • Commercial experience on the African continent, preferably in multiple markets (+3 years)
  • In-depth knowledge of the Public and Private healthcare systems in Africa

Business Analyst

The Position

You as the successful candidate will be based in the Finance Department for East Africa and will report to the Head of Finance East Africa. You will be responsible for enabling the seamless operationalization of financial activities through broad strategic financial and analytical expertise.

Amongst other duties, the role will entail:

  • Customer and credit management: Collaborating with various functions for effective management of credit function
  • Direct Market support: Processing of distributors’ credit notes and monthly credit note accruals, follow up on payments and monthly accruals, responding to ad hoc requests from the distributors
  • Ethiopia Office support: Monthly cashbook posting (both actual and accrual)
  • Internal Controls over Financial Reporting local lead: ensuring internal controls are robust and fit for business purpose and updating the ICFR controls folder with documentation for assigned controls
  • Inventory and Transfer pricing: creating PIR records for any new material, calculate, ensure any inventory adjustment is supported and approved and manage short expiry stock provisions. In collaboration with Logistics, organize annual stock take for audit. In addition, liaising with local and global Pricing teams and global and local tax managers on local transfer pricing matters
  • Fixed asset management: leading the physical fixed asset audit and liaising with the RSS on the final postings if any adjustments need to be considered
  • Local T&E lead post oneT&E project and liaison between RSS/Global T&E organization
  • Partnering with Country Chief Accountant (CCA) and Roche Solution Services (Shared Services)(RSS) on financial operation activities where liaison between the local and RSS is required e.g. during audit, trouble shouting on finance topics where RSS needs local support, travel and entertainment, reviewing and providing the required access on the bank platform
  • Having a tracker with RSS to monitor open issues and resolution and monthly review of the issues
  • Mapping out key stakeholders and carry out regular training to ensure they can carry out some Finance processes independently
  • Quarterly Meetings with the business to get feedback on processes that are working / for improvement
  • Automation of processes e.g. making the accrual tool review and submission efficient
  • Super User Role: Helping users with issues on SAP and raising Jira tickets for any major changes
  • P&C Support: Liaising with Deloitte for employee related taxes

Requirements:

  • A minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • University degree, MBA or equivalent. Business, Accounting or related qualification (CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Being a self-starter / driven and a team player

  • Agility and ability to work in networks
  • Strong Business Acumen and Entrepreneurial Spirit
  • Strong Interpersonal, Influencing and Communication Skills
  • Technical and business expertise
