Medical Officers

REF: V/LC/5/2022

Job Description

The Medical Officers’ job exists to provide general medical services to patients in the hospital, ensure provision of quality and timely medical services and quality patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the strategic planning of the division in collaboration with other medical staff in the unit for significant impact on the performance or business outcome of the hospital and its sub functions.
  • Attend to patients’ medical needs, diagnose their illnesses, and prescribe medicines and other therapeutic interventions in consultation rooms at the hospital.
  • Follow-up on and observe the clinical conditions and progress of patients in the wards
  • Provide medical advice, counselling, health education and control measures to patients in the hospital to prevent spread of diseases and injuries.
  • Work with other medical staff to solve single or multiple medical issues and/or participate in performing extensive surgical operations in the hospital.
  • Implement best practice clinical and patient care related policies and procedures in the outpatient division of the hospital.
  • efer outpatients to the appropriate specialized clinics and medical consultants within the hospital for further diagnosis, treatment, and management of their medical conditions.
  • Provide quality emergency medical services to patients in the emergency unit of the hospital.
  • Implement the hospital’s culture of team-base, fact-base and patient-base and work towards achievement of the hospital Vision.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Valid Practice License.
  • Basic life support and Advanced Cardiac life support certification.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least two years of working experience as a Medical Officer in a busy hospital.

General Nurses

REF: V/LC/6/2022

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Nursing Officer, the General Nurses’ job exists to provide nursing services and patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, register, record and document patients’ information and present the same to the Medical Officers at the unit.
  • Transfer referred patients from unit for further diagnosis or specialized treatment from other units of the hospital.
  • Provide general nursing services and care to patients in the hospital.
  • Support Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in attending to patients in the unit hospital.
  • Administer medication to patients in the unit as prescribed by Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.
  • Monitor patients’ progress in the unit, document the same for clear patient records and report the same to the Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.
  • Liaise with other healthcare staff in handling patients with multiple of complex medical conditions in the units in the hospital.
  • Provide nursing services research and training to students at the unit of the hospital.
  • Ensure that the nursing areas of the hospital are clean and tidy complying with sanitation standards of the hospital.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Valid Practice License.
  • Must have a Certificate in a course in life saving
  • Proficiency in computer applications.

Critical Care Nurses

Job Description

The Critical Care Nurses’ job exists to provide advanced nursing services and patients care in the ICU and HDU, to provide nursing research and training and advise on the same at KUTRRH.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the critical care centers are clean and in the right conditions to provide the conducive environment needed by patients into the critical care centers of the hospital.
  • Ensure that the critical care centers have all the machinery, equipment and materials needed to provide critical care to patients admitted into the critical care centers of the hospital.
  • Set up and monitor medical equipment and devices such as cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators and alarms, oxygen delivery devices, transducers, or pressure lines, and identify malfunctioning equipment or devices, and report the same to the biomedical engineering section of the hospital.
  • Receive patients in critical conditions that are referred to the critical care centers and book them in for advanced care and attention in the hospital.
  • Ensure the provision of quality critical care nursing services to the admitted critically ill patients, based on assessment data or identified needs in the hospital.
  • Monitor patients for their progress and changes in status and indications of health conditions such as sepsis or shock and institute appropriate interventions together with medical specialists in the hospital.
  • Administer the prescribed therapeutic procedures based upon patients' clinical status and assess patients' pain levels or sedation requirements in the critical care centers of the hospital.
  • Conduct pulmonary assessments to identify abnormal respiratory patterns or breathing sounds that indicate medical conditions of patients in the critical care centers of the hospital.
  • Document patients' medical histories and assessment findings, compile and analyze data obtained from monitoring or diagnostic tests in the critical care centers of the hospital.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Valid Practice License as a Critical Care Nurse.
  • Must have a Certificate in a course in life saving.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least two (2) years working experience as a Critical Care Nursing Officer in reputable health facility

Pediatric Intensive Care Nurses

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Nursing Officer, the Pediatric Intensive Care Nurses’ job exists to provide nursing services and patient care to pediatrics and provide nursing research and training at the KUTRRH.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, register, record and document patients’ information and present the same to the Medical Officers at the unit.
  • Transfer referred patients from unit for further diagnosis or specialized treatment from other units of the hospital.
  • Providing appropriate care and informing patients and their families on the status of procedures.
  • Obtain health histories and diagnose their status to create an individualized patient care plan, including non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatments.
  • Analyze physical, psychological, and behavioral traits and assess potential risks.
  • Support Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in attending to patients in the unit hospital.
  • Administer medication to patients in the unit as prescribed by Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.
  • Monitor patients’ progress in the unit, document the same for clear patient records and report the same to the Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Nursing Officer, the Neonatal Intensive Care Nurses’ job exists to provide intensive care services to neonates and provide nursing research and training at the KUTRRH.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, register, record and document patients’ information and present the same to the Medical Officers at the unit.
  • Caring for the basic needs of infants; for example, feeding and changing diapers.
  • Performing medical procedures; for example, inserting intravenous lines, performing tests, and administering medications.
  • Formulating nursing plans and evaluating the effectiveness of treatments.
  • Comforting ill newborns and anxious parents and family members.
  • Offering support to parents and family members and educating them on the at-home care of their newborn.
  • Providing round-the-clock care to premature and severely ill newborn infants. vAdminister medication to patients in the unit as prescribed by Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.
  • Monitor patients’ progress in the unit, document the same for clear patient records and report the same to the Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Neonatal Intensive Care Critical from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Valid Practice License as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse.
  • Must have a Certificate in a course in life saving.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least two (2) years working experience as a as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse in reputable health facility.
