Governance and Health Internship

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University in a relevant field for this position.
  • Familiarity with development policies, international relations and/or East African or Kenyan politics is considered an asset.
  • Adaptability and curiosity are desired characteristics since you will be living and working in a new environment.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, and possessing strong drafting/writing skills.
  • Danish citizenship or fulfilling the following requirements:
  • The applicant has lived in Denmark for a longer period of time (at least 3-4 years), is admitted at a Danish University or Business School and at the time of applying has residence in Denmark.

Climate and Resilience Internship

Learning
As an intern, you will be an integrated part of the Climate and Resilience Team. You will be working on general issues related to poverty reduction and livelihood and a wide range of more specific issues related to climate change, climate finance, climate-smart innovation, water-resource management, agri-business and community-driven development.

Together with the programme staff, you will:

  • Assist in implementation of development engagements under the Climate and Resilience Team;
  • Assist in mainstreaming of climate change across engagements, especially related to reporting on results;
  • Support the team’s work within public diplomacy and implementation of strategic communications activities in close collaboration with the Embassy’s communications officer;
  • Participate in and coordinate meetings, gatherings and events in relation to development partners, government stakeholders, civil society and multilateral organisations etc.
  • Participate in the ‘Greening’-taskforce at the Embassy who is leading the internal organizational changes towards creating create a more sustainable workplace and reducing our carbon footprint;
  • Provide administrative support day-to-day and support during visits by delegations/missions from Copenhagen.

Other tasks will come up on an ad-hoc basis.

In addition, the team also covers Denmark’s engagement with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), which will be an opportunity to learn about multilateral cooperation.

As an intern, you will be acquainted with the practical workings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This include learning about working as a representative for the Danish Government, management of development programmes, engaging in public diplomacy and climate diplomacy, and getting familiar with the financial and administrative systems used by the Ministry.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University in a relevant field for this position.
  • Genuine interest in sustainability and growth, climate change and development cooperation.
  • Working experience from relevant institutions or private businesses is not a requirement but is considered an asset.
  • Responsible, independent and mature in your approach to an internship that unfolds in an international, intensive and demanding environment.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and value working in a team.
  • Quick to learn, ready to adapt and good multi-tasking skills are highly valued qualities.
  • Good English and Danish language skills.

Results and Communications Internship

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily coordination of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia’s social media channels on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Developing original content for our social media platforms, and source content from teams, reports and partners.
  • Production of videos, pictures, and graphics for social media using FinalCut Pro, and Canva
  • Creating communications campaigns for events and development priorities
  • Assisting with project and events management
  • Assistance in developing a results tracker and other results related tasks, including elaboration of success stories to communicate about achieved results.

We are looking for students from communications and development programs with a genuine interest in development, politics and the world around us. Professional experience in social media is a plus. Excellent writing- and organizational skills are required. Additional competencies include:

  • Experience in production of social media content 
  • Ability to shoot and edit video and work on multimedia projects is an advantage
  • Ability to work with CMS
  • A good sense of storytelling - ability to quickly understand a new subject matter and detect compelling stories in data and results. 
  • Demonstrates professionalism and understanding of Danish development cooperation and the importance of collecting and communicating results
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and analytics programs
  • You are open, independent, and bring new creative ideas to the table

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University in a relevant field for this position.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, and possessing strong drafting/writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Innovative, organized, and self-motivated with a keen interest in driving strategic messages to key internal and external role-players.
  • Familiarity with development policies, international relations and/or East African or Kenyan politics and dynamics is considered an asset. 
  • Danish citizenship or fulfilling the following requirements: The applicant has lived in Denmark for a longer period of time (at least 3-4 years), is admitted at a Danish University or Business School and at the time of applying has residence in Denmark.

Somalia Team Internship

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University. E.g. political science, anthropology, law, development studies or public administration.
  • Genuine interest in international relations and development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, work independently, demonstrate initiative and value teamwork.
  • Experience with organisational work through student positions and volunteering, or if you have been living and travelling in development countries - is considered an advantage.
  • Danish citizenship or fulfilling the following requirements: The applicant has lived in Denmark for a longer period (at least 3-4 years), is admitted at a Danish University or Business School and at the time of applying has residence in Denmark.

Trade Council Internship

The work will include

  • Project management of a concrete business development project with delivery at the end the internship
  • Participating in and coordinating meetings with Danish and Kenyan companies, as well as with Kenyan ministries and authorities.
  • Conducting research and contributing to market and sector analysis, partner searches, and developing sector material related to the economic and business framework conditions relevant to Danish companies.
  • Assisting in preparing and conducting visits by Danish trade delegations, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Danish authorities and other events.
  • Contributing to the communication strategy of the Embassy (website and social media), and assisting in coordinating communication across Trade Council teams in the region.General administrative tasks and general assistance with ongoing assignments for Danish companies.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University or Business School in a relevant field, studying for instance business, economics, political science or communication.
  • Genuine interest in business development, public affairs and development cooperation.
  • Working experience from private businesses or other relevant institutions is not a requirement, but is considered an asset.
  • Systematic, independent and responsible in your approach to an internship that unfolds in an international, intensive and demanding environment.
  • You have the ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and you value working in teams.
  • Fast to learn, ready to adapt, and good multi-tasking skills are highly valued qualities.
  • You have strong skills in oral and written English as well as Danish, and are helpful and open to the wide task portfolio at the Embassy.
