What you will do:
Research and reporting/dissemination 100%
• Using the best available data and research, contextualize and build relevant knowledge outputs on doing restoration in the right way i.e., in ways that it contributes to sustainable food systems – enhances food production and productivity in the smallholder farmer communities
• Outline restoration approaches that will increase soil fertility, protect and restore degraded land and enhances local food security (tree and non-tree-based restoration practices)
• Document the link between restoration and food systems transformation
• Assess and outline the policy gap in integrating food in the restoration agenda.
• Assess and outline the relationship between current agri-food practices and restoration
• Provide recommendations on potential tools, methods, and data for tracking food production as a driver for land degradation and deforestation
• Provides recommendations on potential tools, methods and data for tracking the impact of sustainable food production systems in the landscape restoration
Key Deliverables
• The study report with clear and actionable findings. The consultant will produce a report that is analytically robust with compelling narratives and messaging for policy audiences. All the related objectives as described above.
• The consultant will also produce a short issue (brief) for widespread circulation among policymakers with the aim of raising the profile of this issue, providing insight into the implications and potential risks, while suggesting opportunities and challenges for integrating food security in the restoration agenda. It should also include research gaps in this discourse, laying the foundation for further analytical studies.
• The consultant will present the study findings to WRI Africa partners.
What you will need:
• Education:You have a completed PhD degree preferably in international development, agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, or related social sciences fields
• Experience: You have 8+ years of experience in conducting similar work, backed by deliverables – assignment reports, articles etc. You also have experience in conducting high-level context-based research, including conducting in conducting a systematic literature review and primary data collection, and presentation in various tools such as PowerPoint, etc.
• Languages: Verbal and written proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Swahili is an advantage
• Requirements:You must have the authorization to work in Kenya. WRI is unable to assist with visa work authorization
