Our client a hospitality industry is hiring.
Reports to: General Manager
The Human Resource Manager is responsible for implementation of the organization’s HR policies and procedures, the identification, acquisition and retention of required skills, the co-ordination and assessment of training and development of staff, and the monitoring and compliance of Labour regulations and the Employment Act.
He / She provides overall strategic HR leadership by planning, developing and implementing strategies and policies of HR management. The leader also fosters a workplace environment consistent with the organization’s values and mission, and leads the HR team in the provision of proactive, result oriented services


Human Resource Manager Job Responsibilities


Recruitment & Induction

  • Ensure the correct staffing numbers are maintained
  • Interview and aptitude testing of shop level staff after screening by HR Assistant
  • Conduct and advice on staff recruitment, manpower and succession planning.
  • Exercise proactive control over temporary staffing and ensure optimal utilization of manpower resources
  • In liaison with the Departmental and Section Heads, compile and ensure that all Job Descriptions are up to date at all times and have been fully implemented as a benchmark for performance measurement
  • Ensures the HR induction is delivered
  • HR assistant to do reference checks – check written reviews
  • Appointment of staff as per company recruitment policy
  • Staff Induction ensuring all required documentation is collected


Training & Development

  • Identify staff with potential for further training
  • Foster a hunger for learning, showing that knowledge in all areas of business (cross-training) is beneficial
  • Ensuring the company ethos of recruit from the bottom and promote from within, is upheld.
  • Communicate all training dates and updates
  • Ensure Trainee registers are updated for calculation of training allowances
  • Co-ordinate between the various trainers and departments so training is fluid
  • Obtain feedback w.r.t. trainees meeting pass requirements at each stage
  • Retain trainees who pass – co-ordinate their migration to payroll
  • Uniform policy to be observed
  • Collate all assessments for Directors perusal


Payroll Processing

  • Collate branch data from payroll summaries by 25th of every month
  • Ensure queries are sorted on daily and weekly basis
  • Accurate processing using biometric system
  • Maintain electronic payroll system is updated by 29th of the month for approval and payment
  • Printing and distribution of pay slips to all staff not later than 2 days after payday – handle queries immediately
  • Ensure AOD’s are present for all deductions other than statutory deductions
  • Process sick leave, absent days, all leave types and uniform deposits/refunds
  • Reconcile and submit statutory payroll returns before due dates
  • Ensure statutory updates/increases are effected if applicable
  • Liaise with accounts on payroll totals as required for monthly salary cost
  • Calculation and payment of terminal dues, including the clearance process


Assessments / Appraisals Incentive scheme

  • Does Weekly HR audit at branches to assess if HR procedures are being observed
  • Collate assessments for discussion and action
  • Consolidate quarterly appraisals for further action of Management
  • Advise of promotions and increments in writing
  • Update contracts to reflect new roles
  • Ensure Managers and staff are fully aware of incentive criteria and encourage them on how to achieve
  • Create a buzz on how to increase pay through performance based earnings


Development, Mentorship & Succession Planning

  • Identify staff with potential for grooming into more responsible roles
  • Calculate staff and manager numbers required especially during growth phase
  • Co-ordinate their training programme to ensure readiness
  • Plan for leave and maternity leave absence, resignations and any unforeseen absence of Managers, by having shift managers in training constantly
  • Assign staff to mentors to shadow for agreed period


Disciplinary Code of Conduct, Labour & Industrial Relations

  • Provide appropriate Guidance to Managers in the Disciplinary code of conduct.
  • Monitor the Labour Law for any updates to the Employment Act
  • Manage employee relations by ensuring fair and quick settlement of grievances and disputes
  • Liaise with Labour Officers and officials from the various authorities when there are disputes, or requests for an Audit
  • Always ensure theft cases are reported and Case Number is on file in response to unfair dismissal
  • All documents in disciplinary cases must be completed as per Labour requirements and filed immediately
  • Track and address recurring Employee Disciplinary issues – develop workshops to ensure reduction thereof


Reporting

  • Meet and report on strategy with Management weekly
  • Report on any legal disputes after incidents
  • Advise of changes to legislation and implementation dates


Qualifications for the Human Resource Manager Job

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field with a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior HR management position.
  • Proven experience in developing & implementing Talent and Performance Management policies and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of the Kenyan Labour Laws
  • Excellent communication skills
  • People relations skills
  • Active member of IHRM
