JOB DETAILS:
JOB PURPOSE:
• To oversee the day-to-day ZBTI Academic operations such as teaching, learning assessment, new student admissions, curriculum review and development, departmental budgeting, staff discipline amongst others and developing an efficient and effective culture for the institute that enables the production of skilled graduates with the right skills, attitudes and values required in the industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor - ARS; the position holder will among other duties:
• Develop and implement the Institute's Strategic Plan;
• Work in liaison with other offices to ensure that the Institute remains sustainable with optimal student numbers, including participation in student recruitment, marketing of the Institute’s programs and implementation of student retention strategies;
• Monitor and promote class attendance by students and staff, teaching, learning and assessment processes ensuring that standards, quality and relevance in education and training are maintained and comply with all regulatory guidelines;
• Liaise with the Human Resource department in the recruitment and appointment of staff;
• Staff management, including allocation of teaching load, management of their performance, work attendance, leave and general discipline among others;
• Promote research, innovation and staff development in the Institute;
• Coordinate and facilitate regular and effective communication with stakeholders offering excellent customer service to ensure timely resolution of stakeholder concerns;
• Coordinate student and staff welfare activities in liaison with the Dean of students, the HRO and the Admin Officer respectively;
• Initiate collaboration or association with other institutions and industries in and outside Kenya and oversee compliance with the MOUs;
• Prepare annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the Institute;
• Oversee the continual improvement of the Institute’s QMS;
Qualification Requirements for the Position
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree from a recognized university
• At least three years (3) teaching experience at a higher education level or relevant industry experience;
• Must be registered or be registrable for a PhD;
• Be registered or be registrable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Qualities and Skills
• Strong leadership, problems solving and organizational skills;
• Informed about the national and international academic trends and issues;
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements from TVET, examination and professional bodies;
• Excellent customer service skills with a key focus on the final output (result-oriented);
• Passion for quality, keen and self-driven;
• Good analytical and reporting skills;
• Committed and able to go the extra mile.
