JOB DETAILS:
Our client is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join their team in the molecular genetics laboratory. Candidates must be willing to join a fast-paced environment, be willing to learn quickly, adapt to new environments. Suitably qualified candidates must have knowledge, skills, and a keen interest in all areas of practice which includes administration, teaching and education, research, and patient care.
Reporting to the Lab Director, the Head of Lab is responsible for the following key duties:
Key Duties and responsibilities
• Make judgments about the medical significance of clinical laboratory data, communicate effectively in interpreting laboratory data and relating correlations to referring physicians as appropriate.
• Personally perform a variety of services expected of an Anatomic Pathologist e.g., Surgical pathology services, construction of clinical reports, etc.
• Define and monitor accepted standards of performance and direct the implementation of laboratory services.
• Provide consultations to physicians regarding the medical significance of laboratory findings and utilization of the laboratory as appropriate.
• Establish short and long term goals and allocate the appropriate resources and provide cost-effective administration of all laboratory services.
• Relate and function effectively with applicable accreditation and regulatory agencies, the medical community and the patient population served.
• Define, implement, and monitor accepted standards of performance in quality control, quality assurance, and cost-effectiveness of the laboratory service.
• Communicate effectively with accrediting, licensing, and regulatory bodies and maintain effective communication with the local board of directors of the hospital or institutional administration.
• Responsible for the appropriate and timely response of the laboratory to physicians requests for testing plus the appropriate and timely reporting of results. Document compliance with national or provincial utilization protocols pertaining to laboratory services.
• Assure that the laboratory participates effectively in the quality assurance programs,
• Provide educational direction for the medical and opportunities for laboratory staff. Ensure there are sufficient qualified personnel with adequate training and experience to supervise and perform the work of the laboratory.
• Perform planning for setting goals and allocation of resources appropriate to the medical environment.
• Provide effective and efficient administration of the service including budget planning and control.
• Plan and direct research and development appropriate to the facility.
• Select all referral laboratories.
• Promote a safe laboratory environment practice for personnel and other occupants that are consistent with accepted ethical standards for the medical profession.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
• MBBS or MBBCh or its international equivalent with requisite recognised post-graduate training enabling practice as a Pathologist in the country.
• Additional qualification, such as a Master’s or PhD in a related field is an added advantage
• At least 5 years post residency experience in all aspects of laboratory medicine particularly Anatomic Pathology and Molecular pathology.
• At least 2 years previous experience heading a laboratory.
• Must be registered as a specialist with the Country’s Medical regulatory body.
• Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and co-operate with all staff.
• Professional attitude towards work.
