JOB DETAILS:
The Head of Girls Games will be responsible to the Director of Sport for the provision of Girls Games throughout the school, as well as teaching PE throughout the school and contributing to the broader side of school life. Tasks and responsibilities associated with the Post will include:
• Planning and delivering high quality lessons in line with the agreed scheme of work of the department
• Teaching Physical Education from Pre- Prep to Year 8, as required
• Organising and confirming all girls’ sports fixtures
• Drawing up termly calendar fixtures, with the Director of Sport, and communicating these to the Head
• Ensuring girls’ games coaches are fully aware of their commitment and responsibility
• With the Director of Sport, organising all Tournaments and Festivals (to include field preparation, parking, programmes, catering etc)
• Attending termly inter-school meetings, fixtures meetings and Heads of Department meetings
• Working closely with estate management in the preparation and marking of fields, upkeep of swimming pool, astro and the hiring of sports facilities
• Liaising with other members of the department and school in order to explore ways for developing girls’ sport, striving for excellence at all times
• Liaising with the school nurse in the organisation of First Aid provision for matches
• Co-ordinating oversees tours when required
• Liaising with the Director of Sport, Co-Ordinator of PE and other colleagues concerning curriculum, schemes of work, teaching methods, record keeping etc. to provide continuity and uniformity in the department
• Communicating with staff and with parents concerning pupil progress and attending Parents Meetings when required
• Co-ordinating before and after school sporting activities and coaching sessions.
• With the Director of Sport, organising various Inter House events such as Swimming Galas, Cross Country, athletics events etc
• Writing a detailed report on each pupil at the end of designated terms and submitting schemes of work, planning and record keeping when required
• Performing duties, as requested by the Headteacher, for supervising the pupils outside the classroom, such as at lunch and break times
• Putting up attractive and motivational displays on designated boards around the school when required
• To attend weekly Staff Meetings, INSETs, whole school meetings and any other meetings that may require attendance
• Taking responsibility for sports teams and providing extra-curricular sports activities in each term. Matches might be scheduled after school hours or during the weekend and some sports activities may take place out of school hours.
• Stimulating and encouraging pupils to improve
• Creating a coaching environment that encourages participation and enjoyment
• Teaching the pupils good sportsmanship and promoting the school’s Behaviour Policy. Pupils should be made aware of the published Sports Etiquette
• Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both on school premises and when engaged in school activities elsewhere
• Keeping up to date with curriculum developments and professional practice
• Maintaining high personal standards of appearance and behaviour and being punctual and confidential at all times

The applicant needs to:
• Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification
• Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools
• Have experience in coaching major sports to a high level
• Possess a vision for the future of girls’ sport in a leading preparatory school
• Have a capacity to lead and inspire a team of coaches
• Possess a love of sport and coaching to children of all abilities and passion for the development of sporting excellence
• Be able to build good relationships with parents and families.
• Be able to build good relationships with colleagues
• Be able to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment
• Be able to use initiative, show flexibility and be adaptable
• Be pro-active, dynamic and a self-motivated member of The Banda School team
• Be punctual and use time appropriately.
• Be a good communicator with adults and children
• Show good organisational skills
• Show a competent level of written English
• Be experienced in using ICT in teaching and record keeping
• Present a clean Certificate of Good Conduct or International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC)
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils
• Keep up to date with educational developments and be committed to continual personal and professional development
• Be a motivator
The post holder will have the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young persons for whom he / she is responsible, or with whom he / she comes into contact, and will be expected to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times.
