Grants Director Kenya - USAID Africa Trade and Investment
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the design of the Grants under Contract Fund within ATI’s strategic partnership framework, working alongside the Technical, Activity, and Partnership Teams to translate project objectives into grants.
• Design and pilot innovative grant making approaches to meet the needs of private sector partners within the USAID compliance framework, and update grantmaking practices to include lessons learned, best practices, and effective approaches.
• Advise on use of different Notification of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) and methods for identifying new partners, ideas, and opportunities, including multi-regional or continental solicitations.
• Oversee Grants staff to ensure proper evaluation, due diligence, and technical and budget negotiations are carried out in compliance with the Grants Manual and DAI policies. Identify capacity building for grantees and ways to minimize risk.
• Review USAID approval requests, selection memos, and grant agreement terms and conditions.
• Work closely with the MEL Director, Communications Director, and Environmental Compliance Specialist to ensure that these functions are efficiently coordinated in grant design, reporting, and management.
• Oversee proper use of the grants management system and provide accurate, on-time financial and progress reporting on the grants portfolio for the ATI team, senior management, and the client.
• Regularly review DAI grants management processes, forms, and system to find ways to be more efficient, compliant, and meet the technical objectives of the Contract.
• Troubleshoot grants management challenges with grantees, technical staff, CFO, COP, and USAID as needed.
• Perform regular spot audits of grant files to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
• Supervise a growing team of Grants staff, provide on the job training and mentorship, and ensure they are carrying out their duties in compliance with the Grants Manual.
• Lead grants management training for all ATI staff, including Activity and Technical teams.
• Travel throughout the African continent, as required.
REPORTING:
The Grants Director will report to the ATI Chief Financial Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 11+ years of experience working in international business, international development, and/or grants management with experience in the administration of large, complex USG-funded grants under contracts programs preferred
• Proven expertise in process management and creative problem-solving
• Demonstrated exceptional customer relations (both internally and externally)
• Excellent organizational skills with a willingness to identify time sensitive demands, prioritize, take initiative and be proactive in the grants process
• Excellent communications, facilitation, negotiation, and personnel management skills; experience managing direct reports
