JOB DETAILS:
Overview
o Develop and manage a holistic GIS database for forest planning and commercial decision making.
o Conducting GIS analysis to develop key insights for influencing stakeholders.
o Map production showing various data points to support the programme and branch.
o Develop mapping applications and tools.
o Work on GIS projects as assigned.
o Create new GIS datasets based upon existing standards.
o Edit existing Shapefiles, Geodatabases, & relational databases.
o Acquire, download, correct, integrate, & document GPS data from the field to existing GIS datasets.
o Data entry into a GIS related database.
o Assist in map production using ESRI ArcGIS and other GIS tools.
o Propose innovative ideas for the application of GIS to enhance OTI programming
o Assist in any other roles as assigned by the programme.
Experience and personal qualities required
o Gatsby is looking for star-performers that have the following capabilities. The ideal applicants have the following skills and experience:
o A recent graduate of Cartography, GIS, Geography, or related field with first class honors or second-class upper division.
o Interest in a career in international development.
o Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS software required.
o Knowledge of geospatial data from a wide array of sources.
o Experience with data management best practices and data cleaning.
o Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
o Position requires the ability to work in high pressure situations under short deadlines.
o Dynamism combined with a strong work ethic and a sense of initiative.
o Ability to prepare technical reports & documents in a clear & concise manner.
o Prior work experience is not mandatory but a similar role prior and after graduation is considered advantageous.
o Experience with scripting languages such as python or statistical programming languages such as R is a plus
