JOB DETAILS:
We work at the crossroads of human rights and business engaging with a range of strategic partners, including multinational businesses, national human rights institutions, and national authorities as well as regional and international organisations. We develop tools and analyses, build capacity to integrate human rights into business practices and initiatives and engage in global dialogues on business impacts on human rights and sustainable development. We need an adviser for our Business and Accountability team of experts to support our work in Africa. .
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop analyses and tools to promote the effective implementation of human rights and business standards at national level;
• Work with state institutions and other stakeholders in the African countries where the Danish Institute for Human Rights is operating to support the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights;
• Collaborate with African national human rights institutions to strengthen their capacity to act individually and collectively to promote and protect human rights in a business context;
• Develop the strategic engagement of the Danish Institute for Human Rights at regional level to facilitate sharing of current practice and advance standards and mechanisms
• Build on synergies with other relevant frameworks and processes including the Sustainable Development Goals, and with other relevant DIHR workstreams and departments to advance integrated approaches.

Job Qualifications:
• An in-depth knowledge of international human rights law and systems and demonstrated expertise in issues related to the intersections of human rights and the global economy. A substantial experience of working nationally in sub-Saharan African countries as well as regionally/internationally to advance human rights in the context of business activities.
• Comfortable in engaging with a variety of stakeholders at different levels and good at building relationships. Expertise in one or more of our priority areas such as gender, public procurement, renewable energy or technology is a plus.
• Experience in project management and understanding of administrative requirements and procedures is part of the job.
• The adviser must have a Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant areas, and be fluent in English and ideally proficient in French.
