About Angaza: we are an umbrella organization of social entrepreneurs whose overall vision is ‘Kenya without poverty’ as well as income generation, health and education for everyone. Angaza has embarked on income generating strategies for people living in poverty to ensure sustainability of its programs. Our mission is strengthening local social entrepreneurs through services that multiply their impact to sustainably reduce poverty. We identify, spread and scale up good practices for maximum poverty reduction. We focus on approaches that are effective, efficient and financially sustainable. We ensure a strong organizational basis for reaching our vision, by organizing our members as an independent, self-managed, well balanced and locally rooted alliance for poverty reduction.

Job details:
Position: Executive Director
Duty Station: Nairobi & frequent travels to different counties
Reports to: Angaza Board

Core Competencies:
• Results oriented program management of a membership based umbrella organization:
• The applicant should have proven experience in leading and managing (mediating) in a context of various stakeholders, strategize, prioritize and produce outstanding results (together with his/her team).
• Apply and convey entrepreneurial thinking and methods to the poverty alleviation and NGO context: The applicant must be well versed in both “worlds” and be able to produce synergies not only conceptually but also in the Angaza members’ understanding and implementation of programs. This includes the ability of developing high level business plans, market research, design of services etc.
• Excellent intercultural communication skills: The applicant must through his/her way of communication motivate, activate and coordinate the umbrella members. He/she must be a quick and reliable communicator who understands both the Kenyan and German stakeholders’ way of communicating and thinking and is able to mediate between the two.

Responsibilities

Vision & Leadership
• Inspire and motivate Angaza staff and members to engage with and deliver on Angaza’s mission
• Develop, communicate and assess priorities in light of a rapidly changing external landscape
• Strengthen the Angaza membership, its reputation and credibility, seeking long term benefits for Angaza members
• Manage key relationships with Angaza member organizations, encourage open dialogue and actively foster collaboration between Angaza members
• Identify and engage key stakeholders (including governments, business leaders and global NGOs) and foster partnerships to pursue Angaza’s mission related objectives
• Represent interests of Angaza membership both at national and international level
• Enhance Angaza’s profile by speaking publicly at relevant events
Good Governance
• Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board, General Assembly and Country Representative
• Plan in cooperation with the bodies of Angaza
• Report to Board on organizational performance against Angaza’s strategic objectives, indicators, annual work plans and budget
• Formulation of effective policies and their implementation
Financial Model/Strategy
• Conceptualize, develop, implement, improve and standardize self-financing and scalable poverty alleviation programs in cooperation with the programs committee and members
• Develop business models, lead market research, consulting, logistics and marketing
Organizational and Program Management
• Ensure programmatic excellence, rigorous program M&E, and consistent quality of finance and administration, communications and systems in a young, growing organization, different from bigger, more bureaucratic NGOs
• Define organizational work plans and priorities in order to effectively achieve Angaza’s mission, set targets and deliverables
• Engage, develop and empower staff in order to enable high performing teams
• Ensure that staff, systems and other resources are aligned to deliver high impact outcomes and operational efficiencies.
• Comfortable and ready to travel widely to both national and international commitments
Communication
• Swift and reliable communicator in a multi-stake-holder setting, ensuring all relevant parties’ understanding of key items is synchronized
• Experience in dealing with high level individuals (e.g. donors, investors, government or corporate representatives) on a one to one basis
• Strong collaborative decision making ability and inclusive approach

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The prospective staff should hold a Master’s Degree, preferably in business, management, entrepreneurship, development or economics or any other related course
• A minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience in private enterprises, particularly in the field of agribusiness or an NGO
• Fluent in Swahili and English, other local languages are a plus
• Experience in acceleration of business start-ups
