Engineer- Metro Deployment
Detailed Description
Reporting to the Manager- Metro Deployment, the position holder is responsible for deployment, optimization and management of all the fiber network to support both Internal and External Customers requirements
Key Responsibilities
• Develop a formal and comprehensive project plan and Obtain all approvals with identified stakeholders prior to proceeding with project execution
• Refine project estimates and resource requirements by performing field surveys to determine and define project baseline and schedule
• Maintain and periodically update the project plan and raise potential risk of deviations from project plan
• Manage the supplier assigned to a project to ensure timely delivery of project
• Manage the Change Requests and recommend appropriate action
• Coordinate project activities with all involved departments and sections departments to ensure well-ordered, end-to-end execution of all project tasks
• Prepare and issue regular/weekly project progress reports for timely and accurate decision making by stakeholders
• Hold regular project progress review and coordination meetings with key project team members, with Contractors, and other project stakeholders
• Develop and maintain the standards and processes to be used in fibre deployment
• Enforce standards in the materials used in networks deployment to ensure optimum QOS and network lifespan
• Maintain and control quality of deployment to ensure high availability and resiliency
• OHS standards enforcement during deployment of fibre networks in conjunction with other stakeholders
• Perform quality inspection and acceptance of concealed works by making regular visits to the field to assure standards, and Validation of as built documents
• Represent Safaricom towards municipality/county authorities and other external parties when required
• Investigate project disputes and resolve or recommend appropriate action
• Act as the Safaricom representative towards the public and local authorities
• Be on call to jointly respond to emergencies such as damages to third parties facilities and follow up the supplier assigned to the project
Qualifications
• First Degree in Engineering with a strong fibre telecoms content.
• 3-year experience in deployment of fibre network
• Excellent project management skills in handling large projects in telecommunication; Certifications in Project Management will be an added advantage
• Knowledge in GIS mapping tools; Connect Master proficiency will be an added advantage
• Familiar with ROW acquisition process
