JOB DETAILS:
Purpose of Role
The purpose of this role is to ensure supply of affordable power to the business, timely and quality maintenance of all electrical installations, accuracy of lightning management systems and smooth delivery of maintenance and repairs of all electrical jobs. It also ensures proper design, costing and implementation of electrical related projects.

Responsibility Scope
Areas of responsibility
Accountable for:

• Central Engineering Workshop
• Factory workshops (electrical EJRs)
• Factory buildings electrical installations and electrical equipment
• Domestic homes electrical installations
• Office buildings electrical installations
• LDS stations
• Powerline’s systems (UTK private grid)
• Interfacing with KPLC power grid
• Powerhouses
• Power generation civil infrastructure
Accountabilities
Power Generation and Distribution
• Enforce adherence to proper and scheduled maintenance of all power distribution systems including poles, powerlines, transformers, and powerline furniture.
• Provide direction in management of all power generation and distribution facilities
• Accountable for renewal and maintenance of company EPRA license for power generation and distribution.
• Enforce maintenance of a library of wiring diagrams for all power lines and power generation systems.
• Ensure compliance to implementation of safety inspection procedures and standards for all power generation and distribution operations.
• Take lead in ensuring regular audits on powerlines are carried out as laid down in defined Unilever and EPRA standards.
• Enforce the PTW (Permit to Work) system in all high-risk tasks undertaken in power generation and distribution.
Maintenance and Repairs
• Lead and provide assurance for implementation of electrical preventive maintenance and repairs of all equipment and machinery in factories, offices, domestic homes and LPS systems.
• Implement and be responsible for an effective management spares management system for electrical material and spares orders at Central Engineering transit store and factory stores to ensure timely turnaround of EJRs. (ordering correct quantities, fit for purpose, financial controls)
• Lead and direct 3P services including energy audits, motor rewinding, generator preventive maintenance service etc, and other specialist 3Ps to ensure cost effective, quality standards and time efficient.
Lightning Safety Management
• Provide leadership and ensure effective operation of lightning management systems and standards across the business.
• Take lead in ensuring regular audits on LDS and LPS systems are carried out in accordance with the standards.
• Enforce preventive maintenance and repairs of all lighting detection and lightning protection installations across the business.
• Provide knowledge/thought leadership in all new technology covering lightning detection, lightning monitoring and lightning evacuation practices.
Administration
• Responsible for implementing local and Unilever standards for electrical systems
• Take lead in planning of key jobs delivered in electrical section
• Accountable for the electrical section operating budget, capex budget and enforcing financial controls.
• Responsible for fixed assets management (capital proposals, fixed assets acquisition, asset movement etc)
• Responsible for stocks and stores management and accounting (clearance and reconciliation) and upkeep for electrical section fuel and materials.
• Responsible for internal controls for all aspects of electrical section (spare parts utilisation, reconciliation of IRs, PRs, etc, audits, etc)
• Responsible for implementing internal and external controls audit actions
• Responsible for enforcement of COBP actions
• Responsible for stocks and stores security for electrical section (fuel, materials, etc)
• Responsible for performance reviews (ER/IR) of electrical section staff
• Responsible for training of electrical personnel in the business
• Responsible for process performance and control in electrical operations and correction of performance deviation.
• Responsible for ER/IR issues for electrical section
• Responsible for effective functioning of operational systems that interface with other consumers and service providers e.g. manufacturing sites, materials ordering, KPLC, etc.
• Responsible for assuring compliance to regulatory authority standards that govern electrical operations in the business.
Capex Project and Contractor Management
• Provide leadership in implementing a contractor management system for management of electrical 3P contractors
• Give direction on management of electrical projects to ensure delivery within specifications, time and cost.
• Regularly interface with contractors/consultants to ensure compliance to company standards and regulatory authority standards.
Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)
• Take leadership in ensuring all SHE standards and procedures are complied with. Accountable for ensuring closure of all electrical SHE actions and SHE PAR across the business.
• Implementing SHE Policies
• Ensure operationalisation of Unilever SHE Electrical Standards
• Responsible for incident investigations and closure of actions for electrical incidents
• Chair of the Electrical Safety Sub Committee at departmental level and companywide
Technical Training and Development
• Take lead in continuous professional development.
• Plan and execute regular electrical engineering skills development for electrical engineering department.
• Take knowledge leadership in ensuring new technologies and systems for electrical operations are implemented in the business.
Leadership
• Should meet expectations on the Unilever Standards of Leadership behaviors relevant to the work level.
Technical Leverage
• Maintain EBK and IEK professional registration.
• Maintain EPRA license that is required for the role level
• Preferred – acquire Project Management certification to leverage requisite skills for delivering projects on time and budget

Qualifications & Experience Required
• BSc Qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• 15 years’ experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Registered with EBK as a professional engineer and holder of IEK membership certificate with EPRA licensing
• Demonstrated business acumen with proven ability to provide electrical solutions to solve business problems.
• Experience in leading an operational function.
• Experience in leading design and execution of electrical projects.
• Well versed in electrical design.
• Strong communicator in both verbal and written modes.
• Proven conflict resolution capabilities.
