Editor In Chief

What you will do
• Determine publishing guidelines. The editor-in-chief is responsible for determining the tone and scope of the publication.
• Create an editorial board. As The editor-in-chief you’re responsible for mapping out the content and ensuring it is consistent with the publication’s scope (while varied enough to not become monotonous).
• Review content. Reviews the content of each issue and makes sure it is free of copy errors or inappropriate content.
• Hire and lead the editorial team. As the leader for the publication, the editor-in-chief is a key part of the team and sets the tone for the office environment.
• Write editorials. Will contribute written pieces to the publication periodically—either as full articles or as introductory editorial pieces that serve as a prologue to the issue’s content.
• Manage the budget. Manages the publication’s budget and determines where incoming money will be best used. This means they can choose to allocate resources to increase marketing efforts, to hire new staff members, to increase pay rates to be more competitive, and so on.
• Represent the publication. Be the face of the publication, and they are responsible for representing it at publishing conferences and social events. Public relations is a vital part of marketing and fundraising for the publication.

Requirements:
Creative vision.
• Editorial skills. Editors-in-chief need to have a strong command of language and writing so that they can confidently maintain their audience, voice, and scope—both in their own writing, and when determining if submitted or solicited articles are appropriate for their publication.
• Strong leadership. Editors-in-chief set the tone for the office environment, so they need to be comfortable leading a team and making decisions for the entire organization.

Years of Experience
• A relevant bachelor’s degree, journalism, rhetoric, or a related field.
• 5 years Experience working in publishing.
