Director - Public Health
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible to the County Chief Officer, Preventive and Promotive Health Services for administration and coordination of all public health functions
- Ensuring compliance with the Public Health Act, Food Drug and Chemical Substance Act CAP 254, Biosafety Act 2009, and Malaria Prevention and Control Act Cap 246 among other regulations
- Formulating, implementing, interpreting, and reviewing public health policies, guidelines, standards, and procedures
- Planning and ensuring implementation of preventive and promotive health programmes
- Liaising with relevant departments/directorates and other stakeholders in the implementation of public health projects and programmes
- Monitoring and evaluation of public health projects
- Ensuring compliance with international health regulations and rules
- Providing technical advice on preventive and promotive health services department
- Providing leadership in research on public health trends and other emerging issues
- Mobilizing resources and fostering collaborations and partnerships with bilateral and multilateral agencies in support of public health programmes
- Inoculating innovation and modern technology into the provision of public health services
- Developing and implementing strategic workplans, and planning and budgeting for the department
- Overseeing capacity building and performance management for the department/directorate
Requirement for Appointment
- Be a Kenyan Citizen
- Registered by regulatory body
- Valid practice license from public health officers and technician’s council
- Bachelor's degree in either Environmental Health or Public Health from a recognized Institution
- Master’s Degree in any of the following: Environmental Health, Public Health, Epidemiology, Food Safety and Quality, Food Science and Technology, Health systems management, Community Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Health Promotion and Education, Solid Waste Management or Disaster Management from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
- Thorough understanding of national goals, policies and objectives and ability to relate them to public health functions and aspirations of Vision 20230
- Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution
- Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution
- Demonstrate professional competence and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
