Organizational Context
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 56 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, more than 724,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects. In Kenya, JRS has two projects: an urban refugee project in Nairobi focussing on Education and Livelihoods and field project in Kakuma Refugee Camp focussing on Education, Integrated psychosocial inclusive Education programme in Centres and Safe Shelters.
Key Responsibilities
• The Digital Learning Site Officer (DLSO) reports to the Deputy Project Director-Kakuma and will be technically supported by the SNHU Project Coordinator. The DLSO is responsible for overseeing the staff and students involved in the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) AA/BA Program. Students in the SNHU AA/BA program are required to complete internships in established organizations and complete capstone projects to demonstrate their learned skills. The DLSO plays a significant role in the students’ internship and capstone initiatives. The DLSO serves as a key interlocutor between students and potential employers and provides students with necessary trainings and opportunities to secure internships in established organizations. The DLSO ensures the provision of internship proposals and feedback to the JRS education team.
• In the capstone process, the DLSO serves as the initial sounding board for students to discuss potential ideas, and then as a liaison between the students’ and capstone incubation services. It is the DLSO responsibility to collate student feedback during the capstone projects and coordinate the student Capstone Exhibition and Graduation Ceremony.
General oversight of the program, students, and staff:
• Being present at Kakuma JRS’s Learning Center from 8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday, except when working out of office on internship and employment acquisition and advocacy
• Supervising the Academic fellows and providing guidance and feedback on their work and programs with the students. Providing academic coaching and support. Designing learning experiences to support the students active participation in the program and completion of their studies.
• Running weekly meetings with the students, and leading mini-workshops, check-ins, and team building activities Securing internship and employment opportunities for students and advocating for refugee work permits:
• Tracking students academic progress and ensuring timely acquisition of internships
• Tracking student internship experience with students and employers
• Networking with companies and businesses to secure internships
• Providing students with professional development workshops and opportunities to help ensure they are internship and employment-ready
Onboarding new students and tracking student progress:
• Providing guidance to students in the AA and BA admissions process and liaising with SNHU and JRS Kenya on requirements and submissions
• Tracking student progress on the Power BI system
• Flagging students falling below minimum scholarship requirements and developing action plans with these students
• Performs other, similar duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification and Competencies
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Project Management, or related field
• Experience in teaching or conducting workshops.
• Experience in designing learning interventions for out of school youth
• Strong academic writing skills
• Experience working with young people and out of school youth especially refugees and the marginalized.
• Must be highly proactive in communicating locally and internationally with students, on-site members, supervisors, faculty, and JRS staff
• Highly proactive management and coordination skills, ensuring effective and efficient workflow
• Must have excellent computer skills
Desirable:
• Previous experience with a faith-based NGO is an added advantage

Terms and Conditions
• Contract is for Six Months, renewable, with an initial probationary period of Three months. The JRS remuneration policy is aligned with the JRS ethos to offer effective and professional services and at the same time express solidarity with the people served.
