Main purpose of job:
• This is an opportunity for a creative team-player with strong content capture and editing skills to join a multi-disciplinary team working across one of the widest portfolios the UK Government’s overseas network, delivering the British High Commission’s Digital Communications Strategy.
• The role will be based at the British High Commission in Nairobi. Working as part of the Communications Team, you will be responsible for developing and producing high-quality, engaging digital content for Kenyan, Somalian, regional and pan-African communication campaigns across issues such as combating climate change, strengthening economic ties and empowering women and girls – to name a few.
• The successful candidate will have substantial experience with videography, photography and graphic design – in addition to editing the content you capture. You will also have experience of using social media platforms and their analytics tools to release and evaluate digital content. Content you could create includes and is not limited to video, photography, graphics, vertical video, GIFs and animations.
• You will also provide input into digital campaigns to ensure they are planned, designed and developed in a strategic manner, providing insight to inform decisions on channels, target audiences and objectives.
• You will produce social media monitoring and evaluation reports, as well as publish content onto the UK Government’s website, GOV.UK. You will also be responsible for managing the Communications Team budget with another team member.
• You will be enthusiastic and proactive; confident in digital and creative content production with a good eye for design; an effective communicator with experience in delivering high-quality work to deadlines.
• You should also expect to travel across Kenya and to the UK.
Digital Communications and Content:
• Assist the communications team with general admin and contribute to corporate life at the High Commission
• Capture and edit high-quality photo and video content to tell the story of the UK-Kenya strategic partnership and support UK-Somalia communications.
• Create high-quality graphics for use on social media, print and at events tell the story of the UK-Kenya strategic partnership and support UK-Somalia communications.
• Publish and update content on the UK Government’s website – GOV.UK - including news stories and documentation, to a high standard and in accordance with the GOV.UK style guide.
• Develop and deliver a Digital Landscape Report for Kenya twice a year, highlighting media ownership, trends, reach and audience to allow focussed and nuanced digital approaches as the UK interacts with its public online.
• Compile a daily social media and media monitoring summary of focusing on UK/Kenya strategic partnerships and social media trends.
• Evaluate and monitor digital output from Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office and British High Commission social media channels, capturing and sharing examples of best practice. This includes downloading data from social media analytics tools on a monthly basis to monitor medium and long-term trends.
• Work with the different Communications leads help plan for future digital communications campaigns and media stories.
• Work with and occasionally support the regional ‘Digital Transformation Units’, the pan-African ‘Africa Campaigns Hub’ and team leads in BHC/BEM offices on GOV.UK publishing, content creation and evaluation.
Budget management
Budgets:
• Maintain the records of section spend and manage orders and payment processing, to assist in budget management, monitoring and profiling
• Section’s Government Procurement Card holder and ensure that purchases are made within the HMG guidance.
• Procurement roles: Be the team’s Requisitioner, contract manager working closely with the Budget manager on forecast spend
• Assist the Communications Manager in the general budget management process for the team
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience capturing and editing high quality and innovative visual content for impactful digital communications campaigns.
• Highly skilled at photography, videography and editing, including experience using Adobe Premiere or equivalent.
• Highly skilled at graphic design, including experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or equivalent.
• Knowledge of the social media landscape in Kenya and social media trends
• Practical knowledge of using digital platforms and analytics tools, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Hootsuite
• A high proficiency of spoken and written English
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
• An understanding of Digital Campaigns
• Experience in website management and Google Analytics.
• Experience of using software to create GIFs, animations, and digital content outside of graphics, video and stills photography
