JOB DETAILS:
The Deputy Program Director will support the Program Director with the overall management of all program activities and is responsible for oversight of operations and all management and reporting in the absence of the Program Director. S/He will work closely with the selected node teams to ensure good quality implementation, identifying and addressing issues in a timely manner, supporting processor engagement, including sector-wide convenings and training, and the effective integration of TA from Fortification Partners, as well as supporting the Program Director with stakeholder outreach. The latter will include support to the ongoing facilitation of the Fortification Partner Alliance that is a key constituency in the delivery of technical assistance under the TAAP. The Deputy Program Director will work closely with the Program Director and Global Team to plan and lead the rollout of all TAAP Grant activities in countries that will not be directly managed from a node at this stage (possibly Indonesia).
Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
• Reporting to the Program Director (PD), the Deputy Program Director’s duties and responsibilities will include:
• Operations
• Supporting the coordination of key program management activities across geographies, including work planning, reporting, recruitment, staffing, performance management, and resource allocation and budgeting.
• Coordinating operational aspects of country-level deployment for TAAP activities, ensuring availability and efficient implementation of workshops, utilization of training materials and matching technical assistance to country-level needs.
• Supporting the Program Director by creating and day-to-day management of TAA client relationships tracking tool, as well as with stakeholder outreach.
• Leading a team in Kenya and working closely with the selected node managers to ensure monitoring and follow-up on critical management and planning issues for good quality project execution
• Assisting with coordination of non-nodal country activities, specifically, this position will lead the coordination of program planning, logistics, technical specialist platform management and concerted organization of activities, training, and special initiatives
• Managing and supporting the finalization of internal and external project documents, including donor deliverables, presentation decks, and technical reports
• In collaboration with the PD and the M&E Manager, design, review and continuously improve program implementation on the basis of results obtained, based on quantitative and qualitative data and feedback from project stakeholders
• In collaboration with the PD and the Knowledge Management Manager, develop marketing and communications content including newsletter, blog posts, factsheets, studies, brochures, videos and other communications, assuring high-quality, accurate, and relevant content
• In collaboration with the PD and Finance and Budget Analyst, support budget tracking, contract modifications, deliverable tracking against budget, and administrative follow-up
• Assist PD with other strategic and operational tasks as required by the project.
• Strategy
• Designing, reviewing and continuously improving implementation frameworks on the basis of feedback from staff, clients, Strategic Fortification Partners (SFPs), and the donor
• Fostering a positive team culture consistent with TechnoServe’s values and ethics
• Capturing lessons learned and best practices that will contribute directly towards TechnoServe’s proposal and strategic plan for the Technical Assistance Accelerator (TAA)
• Supporting the PD in the overall monitoring of the project against milestones and work plans, developing risk mitigation strategies, and implementing necessary course corrections
• Support the PD to represent the program and present its work regionally/globally to TechnoServe leadership, the donor, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Regional Engagement
• Leading program roll-out in Ethiopia as a priority country
• Maintaining relationships with food processors in Tanzania
• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for TechnoServe to build new LSFF partnerships in the region
Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree + 10 years relevant experience OR Master's Degree + 7 years relevant experience,
• Two or more years experience managing large complex projects or teams
• Excellent oral & written communication skills required
• Strong computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Ability to anticipate demand, manage multiple tasks/ projects to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively, and adapt to changing working conditions
• Experience working in developing countries with strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
• Detail orientation, including strong organizational, analytical and quantitative skills
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 40% of the time
• Fluency in English required
