Information and Digital Solutions Assistant

One of the workstreams within Enterprise Solutions Section is called Information Management (IM). Its’ overall goal is to promote and enhance corporate knowledge and information sharing systems, including UNEPs intranet – weCollaborate. The aim is to position the intranet as the premier knowledge, collaboration, networking and process management hub of the organisation. Other IM-specific initiatives include business process digitalization through corporate ticketing systems, based on Jira and PowerApps functionality. Lastly, IM is responsible for broad outreach of ESS ICT-related tools and initiatives among UNEPs personnel.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct an analysis to determine necessary technical adjustments of weCollaborate/JIRA
  • Design and develop in collaboration with DevOps interactive features of weCollaborate, including assistance with integration with the various homegrown systems and review of applicable polices/standards.
  • Intranet Key Performance Indicators developed.
  • Design and develop applications to support process automation initiatives using Jira and other tools available within UNEP.
  • Various dashboards included in weCollaborate.
  • Plan for confluence-based communities’ platform and services established.

Qualifications/special Skills

  • High School Diploma with training in Informatics/Computer Science/Information Technology or a similar related field is required.
  • A minimum 2 years or more proven professional experience with at the national and/or international level with a focus on technical and ICT support, including experience with Atlassian (i.e., Confluence and Jira) is required.
  • Software and applications development and analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of Operations of programme/project management online tools and databases and other related application systems modules and functionalities is desirable.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently is desirable.

Human Resources Officer, P4

This post is located in UNEP's Corporate Services Division, Human Resources Section, at the Nairobi duty station. The position reports to the Chief of Human Resources Section.

Within delegated authority of the Chief of Human Resources Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • General:
  • Monitors and ensures the implementation of human resources policies, practices and procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in various areas of human resources.
  • Prepares reports and participates and/or leads special human resources projects.
  • Support Human resources audits and coordinate with partners.
  • Oversees and coordinates the human resources work under Corporate Services Division in Geneva.
  • Recruitment and placement:
  • Initiates and coordinates actions covering the entire span of human resources staffing activities (classification reviews, recruitment, placement, reassignment, promotion, performance management, separation), ensuring consistency in the application of the Staff Rules and human resources procedures.
  • Oversees the engagement of non-staff personnel.
  • Represents the Division/Unit at Departmental panels and appointment bodies.
  • Reviews recommendation on the selection of candidates by client offices to include gender and diverse geographic representation in selections.
  • Participates in task forces and working groups identifying issues/problems, formulating policies and guidelines, and establishing new procedures.
  • Represents the Organization with full delegation of authority in discussions with senior management officials on recruitment and other human resources matters.
  • Provides expert advice with respect to conditions of services, duties and responsibilities, and privileges and entitlements under the Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of outreach programs and of talent management strategies and processes consistent with diversity goals.
  • Other duties:
  • Advises and counsels staff in respect of rights, responsibilities, code of conduct and difficulties associated with work and entitlements.
  • Supervises and monitors the work of human resources officers / assistants in undertaking the full range of human resource management activities.
  • Provides guidance to programme managers on the application of classification policies and procedures and by undertaking whole office review.
  • Conducts research in preparing policy papers, position papers and briefing notes on issues related to examinations and tests.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education

  • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in human resources management, business or public administration, social sciences, education or related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management or administration or related area is required.
  • Experience in the use of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System such as Systems and Applications Products (SAP) or similar ERP systems is required.
  • A minimum two (2) years of hands-on experience on recruitment and talent acquisition is required.

Experience Supervising a Team Or Unit Is Required.

  • Experience in analyzing HR data and drafting reports is desirable.
  • Experience in supporting an organization-wide change management program is desirable.
  • Experience with human resources Oracle based recruitment systems such as UN Inspira is desirable.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in human resources management in the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization is desirable.
  • Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Project Assistant Eco Based Systems Adaptation

Under the direct supervision of the Head, UNEP sub Regional Office for Southern Africa (SADC), the Individual Contractor will undertake the following tasks:

  • Provide technical support to the UNEP sub Regional Office during the ‘transformational phase’. This includes (but is not limited to): conceptualizing and developing the transformation rationale; categorizing the 16 SADC countries (based on socio-economic criteria) to ensure effectiveness/efficiency of UNEP interventions; situational analysis of the SADC countries to glean challenges and opportunities; conceptualizing the vision, mission, objectives, focus areas; determining strategic engagements, required inputs (human resources and logistics); conceptualizing the key functions; developing the implementation modality of the sub Regional office; and initial engagements with key stakeholders (e.g. UNRCs, UNCTs).
  • Support the sub Regional Office’s Advocacy and Outreach Campaigns (Education/Awareness/Sensitizations/Trainings) geared to elevate environmental issues to the same level/s as social and economic issues
  • Working with UNCTs in the sub-Region (i.e. operationalization of UNSDCFs, revision/updating of CCAs, revision/updating of JWPs, etc.)
  • Support the Head of Office in her engagement with Member States and various other Stakeholders responsible for environment-related issues, including establishing strategic partnerships
  • Support UNEP Divisions in providing information that can help in (i) Identification of Country priorities to inform programming; (ii) Development and Implementation of various Programmes/Projects/Activities at country and sub-Regional levels (including replication of best-practices and experiences)
  • Support the Head of Office in strengthening the South-South and North-South Cooperation in terms of: (i) sharing best-practices and knowledge related to resolving the Triple Planetary Crisis; and (ii) implementation of various global and regional Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and Conventions
  • Support the Head of Office in convening country/sub Regional platforms (High Level Forums; Workshops, Webinars, Retreats, etc.) and World Environment Day (WED) commemorations, for Environmental Sustainability
  • Support the Head of Office in resource mobilization (in collaboration with UNEP Divisions).

Qualifications/special skills

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Natural Sciences, Environmental Management/Studies, Environmental Science/Sustainability, Sustainable Agriculture, Circular Economy, Biodiversity and Land use Management is required.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in programme or project administration, Environment Management, technical cooperation or related area is required.
  • Experience coordinating and analyzing programmes and services and in-depth knowledge of Environment Management in Southern African countries is desirable.
