Staff Trainer

Primary Purpose

This position is responsible for coordinating training for all CWS RSC Africa staff. The Staff Trainer works closely with subject experts in development of training materials, and delivery of training.  The position works closely with CWS RSC Africa management to administer and grade job knowledge assessments. Staff Trainers may be deployed to the field to observe or monitor training and compliance.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates New Staff Orientation, working closely with HR.
  • Ensures completion of on-boarding training for all new staff, in coordination with supervisory team.
  • Coordinates departmental and specialized trainings, working closely with management team.
  • Coordinates START training for all new staff joining Programs division.
  • Together with Programs Management, carries out training needs assessments and analyzes collected needs assessment data to inform Training Unit priorities and organizational training needs.
  • Contributes to the development of training materials and manuals housed by the Training Unit.
  • Administer and grade job knowledge assessments. Assists in development and reporting on indicators for measuring the level of training success.
  • Tracks delivered training and maintain attendance records.
  • Provides training logistics and scheduling support to the assigned department or unit.
  • Schedules and ensures dry runs are completed for all trainings.
  • Ensures Training Calendar is appropriately updated. 
  • Supports training facilitators with train-the-trainer guidance, preparing presentation materials required, and planning.
  • Uses general education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques.
  • Maintains a current understanding of the US Refugee Admissions Program guidelines, PRM Program Announcements, DHS policies, and CWS RSC Africa’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge on software utilized by the Training Unit, including Moodle.org, Ispring, eSkill. Survey Monkey, Mentimeter and online platforms (WebEx, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned to enhance the effectiveness of RSC Africa Programs.

Qualifications: 

Experience: 

  • Five (5) years of paid related work experience is required.
  • Two (2) years training experience is preferred.

Skills: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and innovative training skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Outlook).
  • Thorough knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the Worldwide Refugee Admissions Processing System (START) database and Operations Policies and Procedures.

Abilities:

  • Manage large and diverse workload under pressure with competing priorities.
  • Maintain the integrity of official records;  
  • Analyze and solve complex problems and make sound decisions;  
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Maintain a high performance standard with attention to detail;  
  • Work independently and contribute to overall operations of RSC Africa;  
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). 

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of paid work experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Certificate in course development, training development, instructional design, or an applicable training is preferred.

Cultural Orientation Trainer

Primary Purpose:

This position is primarily responsible for providing cultural orientation training to refugees approved for resettlement to the United States. Cultural Orientation Trainers conduct trainings in accordance with US Refugee Admission Program (USRAP) guidelines and RSC Africa CO standard operating procedures. Trainings take place in urban and camp locations throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains a current knowledge of the US and US Refugee Admissions Program, adhering to all PRM, RPC, CWS and RSC Africa policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Participates in review of the CO pipeline by reviewing reports to determine CO ready cases in various locations and propose circuit ride activity to CO Supervisors.
  • Prepares for cultural orientation circuit rides by reviewing information about participants to be trained, developing lesson plans specific to those participants. In collaboration with CO Program Assistants and other circuit ride team members, coordinate the gathering and packing necessary training materials, hiring interpreters and child minders, and printing class lists and name tags 
  • Conducts cultural orientation training in urban and camp locations throughout Africa both in person and remotely
  • Assists in writing trip reports upon return from CO circuit rides in collaboration with other circuit ride team members for submission to CO supervisors and Managers.
  • Assists with the logistical planning in collaboration with Logistics Unit and CO supervisors.
  • Represents CWS/RSC Africa to partners in the field, ensures that standard operating procedures are being followed, and consults with CWS RSC Africa Leadership on matters of concern.
  • Updates Worldwide Refugee Admissions System (START) in a timely manner to reflect participation in CO. Actively participates in circuit ride briefings and debriefings.
  • Works on projects related to CO curriculum development, training materials development and other aspects of the CO division as assigned by Curriculum Development Supervisor
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the CO Supervisors, CO Managers and or the CO Coordinator to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of the CO program.

Qualifications:

Experience: 

  • Six (6) months experience in education or training required.
  • Four (4) years work experience in any or a combination of the following is preferred: training; field work carrying out program activities; liaising with agency partners and/or vendors; logistical experience organizing field missions. Relevant experience in the United States strongly preferred. Experience working with refugees preferred.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated computer skills in database systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the internet.

Abilities:

  • Work with minimal supervision

  • Strong English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

 Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required or four years of directly related experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
