In 1998, CURE International, in cooperation with the African Inland Church, opened the AIC-CURE International Hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Along with being CURE’s first hospital, CURE Kenya was Africa’s first orthopedic pediatric teaching hospital for children with disabilities.

Development and Programs Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The development and programs manager is responsible for the administration and overall coordination of fundraising functions of the hospital, which includes but is not limited to managing the existing CURE hospital donors, strategizing on new donor engagement, overseeing the implementation of donor-funded programs, marketing and branding and ensuring the Hospital is fully automated.

Donor requests and administration

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive written annual resource development plan with strategies for donors and prospects in each constituent group, including individuals, faith groups, organizations, corporations, etc.
  2. Broaden the Hospital’s fundraising scope by researching, coordinating, and writing proposals to prospective donors.
  3. Provide timely reporting and ensure compliance as required by the different donors per their reporting requirements.
  4. Create and implement donor development and cultivation strategies that will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base.
  5. Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices, and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform the Finance Manager and Executive Director of items that would benefit the Hospital.
  6. Create and implement major gifts program, planned giving program, and volunteer/ human resource sharing program.
  7. Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board, or volunteers, as appropriate.
  8. Ensure that the donor database information is current and accurate.
  9. Offer support to the business development office in Identifying and pursuing new corporate and foundation funding sources.

Business Development

  1. Come up with strategies for increasing patients number through mobilization and follow-up processes.
  2. Responsible for continuously enhancing the Hospital’s brand position
  3. Ensure all Hospital’s operations are of a high quality and continuous enhancement of

quality in all activities to ensure the Hospital meets and surpasses the patients’

needs. This is the critical foundation for enhancing the Hospital’s brand.

  1. Develop a strategy to market the Hospital using various marketing media (e.g., print,

digital, broadcast, and signage company profiles, leaflets, and updating relevant information on the hospital website, Facebook, and Twitter.) to increase awareness about the Hospital.

  1. Develop a strategy for developing and distributing/broadcasting documentaries on the

Hospital success stories and testimonials by recovered patients.

  1.  Identify foundations/corporate social responsibility programs working in Kenya and

establish a strategy for working with them to support the Hospital activities.

  1. Aggressive marketing of the Hospital services by entering into marketing strategies/contracts with critical organizations that the Hospital can provide orthopedic care
  2.  Review the implementation of the mobile clinics' programs to make it a gateway for private patients and bring in the general patients.
  3. Establish a working relationship with non-resident doctors to allow them to treat their patients at the facility.
  4.  Ensure the Hospital’s marketing campaigns provide for broadcasting in the main media programs being run by international doctors.
  5.  Organizing publicity events within the hospital, local community partnership events, and collaborating with relevant government agencies in arranging community awareness campaigns. 
  6.  Lobbying ministries and political leadership in assisting the hospital services and projects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Degree in Communication, Social Studies, Business Management/ Financeor related field, or equivalent work experience.  
  2. Masters in a Business Related program will be an Added advantage.
  3. 3 – 5 years experience working in Resource Mobilisation; This can include Fundraising, Business/ Partnership Development

Anesthesiologist

CURE continues to have needs for exceptional Anesthesiologists to join our team. This position represents a unique opportunity for a challenging and fulfilling career in improving the standard of health of a community. The Anesthesiologist will be responsible for providing hands-on anesthesia care to our patients, which adheres to the quality standards of CURE.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Complete preoperative anesthesia evaluations and make recommendations for appropriate anesthesia interventions.
  • Utilize appropriate monitors, equipment, supplies, and medications in the set up for, and completion of, appropriate anesthesia interventions.
  • Perform induction, maintenance & emergence of general anesthesia.  Perform effective management of the patient airway and fluid resuscitation.  Address and resolve any anesthesia-related complications that may arise.
  • Perform various regional anesthesia techniques.
  • Assess and implement pain management in the postoperative recovery period.
  • Accurately and thoroughly chart pertinent patient information.
  • Ensure the safety of patients during consultations, surgical interventions and in the postoperative environment.
  • Assist the Medical Director in ensuring the maintenance of an accurate and adequate supply of medications and supplies.

CORE COMPETENCIES/SKILLS/EDUCATION NEEDED

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from a qualified, recognized medical institution.
  • Board certification, or board eligible, preferred.
  • Current and unrestricted medical license.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a private or hospital practice.
  • Experience in the developing world is strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in English required.  Fluency in one of the local language(s) may also be required depending on the location.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with those of different cultures.
  • Competency and proficiency in anesthetic procedures.

Construction Director

The Construction Director is responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating the construction activities at our CURE Hospitals. The Construction Director will regularly travel to all construction sites, supervising Construction Managers, and oversee the project from start to finish, including organizing the schedule of works, maintaining the budget, and adhering to quality standards. This position will be the direct senior CURE representative to oversee the project's contractor(s) works and can be based at a CURE hospital location or remote and will require regular travel to CURE hospital locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Examine engineering architectural drawings and review design computations to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and established international and local standards, codes and regulations. 
  2. Conduct internal project assessments to validate recommendations from contracted engineers and architects. 
  3. Complete bid analyses to ensure the best value options for assigned projects. 
  4. Verify the contractor’s fulfillment of specifications in the Bill of Quantities and construction contracts, and review the quality of material samples to ensure it meets or exceeds standards. 
  5. Chair and document weekly job meetings with the Project Engineer, Construction Manager and contractor to review the work plan, the progress of works, requests for information, change orders, material inspections, and other construction-related activities. 
  6. Supervise and provide contractors with instructions to adhere to their work schedule and the required quality and safety standards.
  7. Conduct regular site inspections to all sites to ensure contractors maintain health and safety within the hospital grounds and project site and ensure that safety rules and best practices are strictly followed. 
  8. Advise the Project Engineer and hospital management of any concerns and propose recommended improvements or changes.
  9. Review contractor invoices through verification of BOQ, and work with Project Engineer, Construction Manager, and Contractor to prepare documents for final approval and payment by hospital management and CURE finance.
  10. Proactively work with contractors to ensure procurement of longer lead-time items are being considered and actioned accordingly. 
  11. Coordinate progress update meetings/conference calls with the Executive Director, Operations Manager, and Regional Head of Facilities, monthly or as requested.
  12. With assistance from the hospital’s communications teams create weekly progress reports on redline drawings, quantities, change orders and store progress photographs in the CURE Project Management Google Drive or other CURE designated project management systems.
  13. Manage any unexpected problems during the project and assist Hospital Management through any conflict resolution with the contractor, if necessary.
  14. Establish and chair a project risk management committee.
  15. Ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget by setting benchmarks, budget approval, and monitoring progress.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Certifications in one or more aspects of construction management (project management, health and safety, construction, environmental, etc.).
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture or construction management preferred.
  3. Intermediary ability/training/certification in Autodesk products (AutoCAD and REVIT).
  4. Intermediary knowledge of and basic technical (hands-on)  abilities in various trade skills such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, surveying, welding, etc.
  5. Minimum of five (5) years of building construction project experience in the areas of major and minor projects, remodeling, and renovation.
  6. Previous experience in hospital / healthcare construction is essential.
  7. Background check will be required, if shortlisted.
  8. Proficient in English: Speech and Written Communication.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Also intermediary ability in Microsoft Project preferred.
  10. Proficient in PDF documents redlining and commenting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of engineering practices and principles for healthcare facilities.
  2. Knowledge of the construction standards, codes, and regulations pertaining to the construction and maintenance of structures and facilities. 
  3. Pre-construction knowledge regarding costs of construction and maintenance.  Ability to complete bid analyses. 
  4. Ability to perform general construction tasks.
  5. Ability to administer and conduct a thorough and detailed inspection of buildings and facilities.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot and develop a list of recommendations to correct existing facilities and new construction problems.
  8. General understanding of lifecycle maintenance.
