JOB DETAILS:
We are currently looking for qualified personnel to fill the position of a COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER for a fixed term period of one year to be based at our country office in Nairobi with frequent field visits..
Objective of the position
To steer effective and interactive communication of Welthungerhilfe Kenya Program, across different mediums, as well as through writing, production and distribution of communication materials to increase the organizations visibility in the areas of implementation.
Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Head of Programmes, the Communication Officer’s responsibilities include:
• Reviewing all existing brochures and leaflet prepared by Welthungerhilfe in Kenya
• Develop and maintain good links with the media; organize media events
• In consultation with the Systems Developer manage the landing page of Welthungerhilfe Kenya program; ensure regular posting of information; ensure page is up to date, accurate and compelling
• Write and produce high quality communication materials, and effectively communicate these across key audiences; while ensuring that they conform to Welthungerhilfe standards and promote the image and objectives
• Be the focal person for both internal and external communication
• Liaise with the marketing and communications departments at the head office in Bonn, Germany on the required information for public relations
• Get familiar with the visibility strategy of Welthungerhilfe as well as donor needs
• Regularly obtain briefing from the Program Department about the status of the projects and requirements of donors in terms of visibility
• Make regular field visits to ensure that visibility strategy is being complied with
• Produce short videos and audios for internet publishing
• Produce good quality pictures for publishing purposes
• Conduct interviews with beneficiaries and write down success stories that be used in publication materials
• Produce public relations materials, edit and layout reports and other promotional materials:
• Prepare a brochure on the work done by Welthungerhilfe in Kenya in a participatory and interactive manner and also using visual aids
• Regularly update Welthungerhilfe projects status leaflet
• Preparation of Power Point Presentations and handouts of the current work done by Welthungerhilfe that can also be used in meetings with donors and other stakeholders
• Produce, together with the Program department communication strategy document
• Assist field teams by giving ideas on useful visual publication materials for beneficiaries.
• Communicate with partners and ensure that the projects also produce useful visual materials in particular where Welthungerhilfe is not present itself
To qualify as a Communications Officer, the candidate must possess the following:
• B.A degree preferably in journalism and communication, or any other related field, MBA in Journalism and communication will be an advantage.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in communications and public relations preferably in an NGO set up
• Demonstrated outstanding work experience with Kenyan media and positive public recognition
• Ability to produce short videos and audios for internet publishing
• Ability to produce good quality pictures for publishing purposes• Ability to produce short stories
• Working knowledge of visual aids and its computer programs (publication software including web design)
• Working knowledge of general computer programs (e.g. MS Office)
• Flexible and ready to travel
• Ability to work under pressure and keep deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, organizational and analytical skills and ability to work well in a team.
