Communications Officer

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Social and behaviour change communications (SBCC)
    • Lead the development of new SBCC content for our programs, fulfilling funder requirements while engaging in deep consultations with communities to understand myths and barriers to uptake
    • Lead the co-creation process of SBCC content with communities, stakeholders, team members and consultants based on ZanaAfrica’s iterative processes
    • In partnership with other members of the Programs team, pilot and test the SBCC initiatives before rollout
    • Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to assess and document impact
    • Strategic marketing and communications
    • Lead the development and implementation of strategic communication plans to promote awareness of ZanaAfrica Programs’ mission, strategic goals, and activities.
    • Take the lead in strategic documentation, including progress reports, success stories, and lessons learned from projects, ensuring thorough documentation and archiving for future reference.
    • Develop communication strategies in partnership with the Program Manager and Executive Director, crafting compelling content and campaign ideas to effectively convey the impact of programs.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to identify key messaging priorities and target audiences for communication campaigns.
    • Collaborate closely with project teams and implementing partners to gather relevant information, stories, and updates for communication purposes.
    • Curate compelling content, including articles and reports, to effectively showcase the impact and achievements of ZanaAfrica and ensure all content is engaging, accurate, and aligned with the organization’s messaging and goals; develop an annual report each year with visuals and impact stories.
    • Leverage ZanaAfrica’s communications assets such as its comic character universe, and lead the ideation and development of new communications and SBCC-based programming and partnerships
    • Lead external communication efforts, including press releases, media outreach, and public relations activities, product and program launch events, participation in co-branding conversations with strategic partners, to promote positive visibility and reputation for ZanaAfrica; establish and nurture partnerships with media organizations to enhance the visibility of initiatives.
    • Engage with diverse stakeholders, including donors, partners, beneficiaries, and the broader community, to foster meaningful relationships and enhance support for our programs through communication strategies.
    • Monitor the performance of communication activities and initiatives and analyze metrics and feedback to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
    • Prepare regular reports and presentations on communication efforts, outcomes, and impact for internal review and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence and proficiency in public speaking, including presentations, speeches, and media interviews.
