How can you make a difference?
The purpose of this deployment is to support the UNICEF Country Office to scale up its emergency response programme related to the use of landmines and other indiscriminate or illicit weapons by state and non-state actors to ensure fulfillment of UNICEF’s CCC Commitment 8. This includes ensuring interventions are in place to prevent and address the use of landmines and other indiscriminate or illicit weapons.
Key activities & duties
• Design, prepare, implement, monitor and evaluate assigned Mine Action project.
• Prepare the sectoral documents for the Country Programme Recommendation (CPR) and Plans of Action, Country Programme Summary Sheet, and other programme documents, as required.
• Act as liaison to the other UN agencies involved in Mine action.
• Participate in intersectoral collaboration with other programme colleagues and ensure that mine action activities are well coordinated and integrated with other armed violence prevention projects
• Assists in development of appropriate communication and information strategy
• Undertake field visits to monitor project, as well as conduct periodic project reviews with government counterparts and other partners.
• Provide technical advice and assistance to government officials and other partners in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programme/project(s).
• Assist government authorities in planning and organizing training programmes. Identify needs for capacity building, programme sustainability, as well as promotion and advocacy.
• Work with government counterparts to design and initiate implementation of a ‘transition plan’ to handover UNICEF responsibilities to government counterparts.
• Participate in the development of sectoral workplans, ensures the achievement of specific assigned objectives. Provide guidance and support to staff in meeting project objectives.
• Ensure the accurate and timely input of project information in the computerized programme system, and issues status reports for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
• Prepare programme/project status reports required for management, Board, donors, budget review, programme analysis, annual reports, etc.
• Provide inputs on justice for children in all UNICEF and broader UN/Government planning processes, and provide inputs to all relevant reporting mechanisms within UNICEF as well as interagency
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education-
• Advanced university degree in social work, international relations, law, child psychology, or other relevant field.
Work Experience-
• A minimum of 5 years of experience with UNICEF and/or other relevant actors, including experience with child protection programming related to mine-risk education in situations of armed conflict.
• Background and familiarity with international human rights and humanitarian law, monitoring and reporting on grave violations against children is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of UNICEF’s core commitments to children in humanitarian action as well as the humanitarian cluster approach, particularly the child protection working group (sub-cluster).
Language Requirement:-
• Fluency in verbal and written English and/or French (depending on the country office's official language).
• Good written and spoken skills in the language of the humanitarian operation in country of assignment and knowledge of another UN language or a local language is an asset.
