JOB DETAILS:
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level may be deployed in any of the units at the Department’s Headquarters, as a Sub–County Roads Engineer or a Resident Engineer. At the headquarters the duties and responsibilities will include: planning, controlling and coordinating of design, construction supervision, repair and maintenance of roads; checking and recommending for approval of engineering consultants designs including evaluation, certifying and recommending fees submitted by consultants and contractors; and co–ordination of improvements of road services.
As a Regional Roads Engineer, the officer will be responsible for direction and co–ordination of roads and research activities within the regions. Duties will include: supervision of construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of classified and unclassified roads; preparation of tender documents; monitoring the execution of roads development projects and supervision and training of engineers and technical staff.
As a Resident Engineer, duties and responsibilities include: supervision of the construction works; site measurements and valuation; arranging for materials testing; preparation of payment certificates; and analysis of contractual claims.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –
• Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Engineer (Roads/Materials) or comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years;
• A Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
• Been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
• Current valid annual Practicing License from the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
• Corporate Membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
• Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized Institution;
• Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of civil engineering programmes
