JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
Amref International University’s focus is on training, research, and extension in health sciences with emphasis on promotive, preventive, rehabilitative and palliative health. It is committed to progressively develop innovative programmes catering to the present as well as future Africa and global health needs.

Responsibilities
• Oversight of implementation of the strategic plan: – monitor implementation and achievement of strategic plan targets;
• Planning and coordination: -ensure coordinated planning and implementation of business of the university programs including the development of unit annual business plans
• Provides direction on administration operations to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Integrates innovative practices and metrics into administrative operations
• Infrastructure development: – Establishes a close working relationship with relevant offices and individuals to develop collegial, efficient and transparent work and planning process for facilities use and development at the University, including oversight of land use, master planning, public safety & security, and transportation & parking; oversee new construction and repair of buildings as well as landscaping and maintenance of roads and walkways
• Functioning management systems: – Ensure that AMIU student, staff and financial management systems are of global standards and able to serve clients in and outside of Kenya. Put the right management software and hardware in place and have people trained to use them
• Legal compliance: – ensure legal compliance with all policies, MOUs and other agreements pertaining to the University in Kenya and other countries in Africa where courses/research are being undertaken.
• Financial sustainability: – oversee implementation of cost-saving measures as well as cost-recovery and development of micro-enterprises
• Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
• Ensure that strategic cross-cutting issues are operationalized in administration and Amref Health Africa shared services are leveraged for the benefit of the University

Qualifications
• Have earned academic credentials in management at a Master’s degree level
• Understanding of university administration
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible positions, preferably in higher education, evidence of a leadership role in current organization.
• Have experience in implementing management systems
• Be able to oversee financial operations
• Be competent in construction management
• Experienced in strategy development and implementation
• Able to work across cultures
• Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills
• Excellent communications skills
