JOB OVERVIEW: The role of Chief Nursing Officer is a Clinical Administrative role, which requires a deep understanding of clinical skills and hospital dynamics. The role requires a strong leader who is able to ensure high-quality healthcare. The role will incorporate various different objectives, including clinical and administrative, which means that the applicant should be flexible and ready to take on challenges. .

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
There are 5 core areas to the role of Chief Nursing Officer: Nursing, Administration, Advisory, Leadership and Liaison.
• Nursing - it is the role of CNO to ensure that the highest standard of healthcare is provided. This means making sure that nursing and other medical staff are practicing safely and holistically; that resources are maintained and accessible; development and implementation of clinical processes and policies; designing healthcare strategies to target goals.
• Administration - many of the CNO roles are administrative, this can include procurement management, assisting with human resources, managing the license status of staff members, disciplinary action if there is a failure to comply with process and policy, managing rosters etc.
• Advisory - It is the role of the CNO to advise Senior Hospital Management on best practice and existing healthcare standards. The CNO should be a resource for information regarding clinical standards.
• Leadership - it is the role of the CNO to demonstrate leadership in their role. This means leading by example when it comes to process and policy; advocating for both the patient and the staff member; ensuring that staff feel empowered in their roles as healthcare providers and are encouraged to work to a high-standard.
• Liaison - The CNO is responsible for liaising with government bodies and partners of the hospital. This means that the CNO should be aware of all changes, meetings etc. that involve the hospital and government bodies. In addition, the CNO needs to liaise between hospital staff (i.e. physicians and nurses).
