IN EXERCISE ofthe powers cunferred by Sections 7(2) ofthe Media Council at Kenya An. 2013 the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and Technology dedares vacancies in the position of Chairperson and Member of the Media Council of Kenya and invites applications from suitably qualified petsons for the position of Chairperson and Member of the Media Council of Kenya.
The applications shall be focwarded to the Selection Panel Pulsuant to Section 7(3) and (7) of the Act. within seven (7) daysofthis notice.
The powers and function of the Media Council ofkenya are stipulated in section 5 and 6 of the Act
Qualifications for appointment as chairperson or member of the council
A person shall be qualified for appointment as a Chairperson or member of the Council under section B of the Act, if that person is -
• A citizen of Kenya;
• Holds adegree from university recognized in kenya m Hasknowledgeandupefienceofatleasttenyears,h1theuseoifluCiuirpeison,msevenyears, in the case of a member, in mattets relating to anyof the folIowing fields-
• Law;
• Journalism;
• finance;
• Gender and human rights;
• Performing arts;
• Advertising;
• Public relations;
• Religious studies;
• Communication;
• Humanities and social sciences; or
• Information technology.
• Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Consitution and
• Has had a distinguished career in their respective fields
B DISQUALIFICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS A CHAIRPERSON OR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL
A person shall not be qualified for appointment as a Chairperson or Member of the council under section 8 (2) of the Act. If that person
• ls a Member of Parliament or County Assembly;
• ls an official of agoverning body of apolitical party;
• Has at any time within the preceding five years, held a political office;
• ls an undischarged bankrupt;
• Has been convicted of a felony;
• Has benefitted from, or facilitated an unlawful or irregular allocation, acquisition or use of land or other public property; or
• Has been removed from office for contravening the provision of the Constitution or any other
• written law.
C. TERMS OF SERVICE
TheChairperson and Memberolthe Council shall hold office for a period of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further and final term of three years.
