JOB PURPOSE:
KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) is one of the leading research centres in Africa. The Programme engages in a wide range of research on the main causes of ill health in Africa.
We seek to appoint an Assistant Research Officer (Statistics & Computing) who will be responsible in the assembly, curation and archiving of various datasets as per study requirement. The person will work with the data management team at KWTRP and its collaborating institution to develop and maintain a system to track data quality and completeness. This job will require familiarity with STATA and R, and the ability to develop and support digital data collection tools using MySQL and PHP as well as a good team player. They will report directly to the postdoc and principal investigator. They will also be expected to take on roles within the wider Kilifi Programme of the KWTRP as required. .

• Principal Investigator.

INDIRECT REPORTS:
• Research Assistants
BUDGET AND RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY:
• Some responsibility for ICT hardware maintenance to support data collection and planning for updates / additions.


Responsibilities
The post-holder will work with the principal investigator and partners in this project and the wider data management team based at KWTRP to plan, develop, and curate data that meets the requirements of the study. Specifically, they will have leading roles in the following areas:
• Assembly of various datasets as per study requirements
• Developing and maintaining systems to track data quality and completeness.
• Liaise with collaborating partners (County MoH) to ensure quality data
• Liaise with head of surveillance to curate other surveillance databases
• Liaise with data curation team
• Resolving data queries with team and maintaining audit trail of errors
• Produce progress summary reports as required
• Developing code in STATA/R to provide reports.
• Developing comprehensive data dictionary and a complete description of all study datasets
• Working to ensure data are appropriately managed and archived and that all analytic codes are documented and archived with version control
• Data curation and archiving in Harvard Data verse


Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics / Computer Science (either Statistician with good programming skills or Computer Scientist with sufficient training in Statistics)
• At least 1 year of work experience.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA
• Experience with report writing for data quality.
• Familiarity with MySQL and PHP.
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and certification.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and to multi-task

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
• Based at the Kilifi office of the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kenya with planned travels to Nairobi.
