Post: Agriculutural Extension Officer

Reporting to the Community Development Manager, this position is responsible for the coordination of food production through efficient small scale irrigation, rain—fed conservation agriculture, mixed farming with agroforestry as well as installation and management of drip irrigation systems in the Lewa supported schools to ensure sufficient food production in the schools.

Key duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate agricultural activities in the community development programme in consultation with the Community Development Manager;
  
• Assessing the various communities’ agricultural activities and making technical recommendationsfor improved production and sustainability;
  
• Provide relevant capacity buildingto community members on conservation agriculture, sustainable livestock keepingand on—farm water management;
  
• Coordinate initiatives of scaling up agroforestrythrough tree planting and management of community tree nurseries;
  
• Support the development of increased market linkages for farming households and farming communities; and
  
• Coordinate the drip irrigation farming in the beneficiary schools.

Job Specifications
The job holder must possess:

• Diploma in Agri-business/forestry or horticulture. Higherdiploma in a relevant field isan added advantage;
  
• 5 years’ experience in farm production, forestry or agricultural extension services;
  
• Proficient in computer skills;
  
• Excellent supervisory, time management and interpersonal skills;
  
• A valid motor bike licence is a must. Motor vehicle driving licence is an added advantage; and
  
• Ready to start working immediately.
