About the Centre for the Study of Adolescence (CSA). CSA is a leading national Organization committed to the promotion of the health and development of young people through research, technical assistance, advocacy, and capacity building to expand choices and improve access to safe, affordable, and sustainable health services. CSA works in partnership with governments, relevant institutions, professionals, and communities to support young
people’s right to exercise choices, and access to health services, and participate fully in activities that promote their health and general well-being.
The main purpose of the job is to provide overall leadership on the CSA policy and advocacy engagements at the county, national, regional, and international levels in line with key organizational strategic documents. The role includes documentation and sharing of knowledge, capacity building, and developing joint reports with the county, national and international networks, and processes as well as monitoring progress and contributing to the same.
Responsibilities of the job
• Lead CSA’s rights-based sexual and reproductive health advocacy agenda
• Support the review of regional and international health commitments to ensure inclusivity and intersectionality with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
• Carry out policy analysis to identify opportunities to advance advocacy and campaigns towards SRHR and vibrant civic space, as well as alert on potential risks
• Support engagement in key national, regional, and international advocacy processes (ESA CSE, UN processes, HRC, ICPD, CSW, SDGs) including reaching out to national networks and coalitions to develop joint reports and positions
• Engage county and national partners, platforms, and other networks to support and strengthen recognition of SRHR diversity and inclusivity
• Engage young people in all their diversities, communities, partners, and other key stakeholders in joint events.
• Organize and host training, workshops, and other policy-related events.
• Contribute to campaigns, ensuring they are built around solid policy analysis
• Liaise and maintain regular contact with government officials, parliamentarians, and policymakers on key policy issues.
• Support technical working groups/committees, and conduct stakeholder consultations to support engagement as well as policy development and implementation
• Work with all CSA projects to identify advocacy opportunities and agenda
• Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation purposes to contribute to the achievement of key advocacy outcomes.
• Coordinate with the staff team to develop impactful and timely policy documents (briefings, position papers, reports and recommendations) for policy engagement processes
• Anticipate possible advocacy developments and outcomes and prepare contingency plans and strategy adjustments
• Maintain vigilance and reports on national contexts on major SRHR issues
• Support the identification and development of fundraising opportunities represent CSA in county, national and international forums
Desired Qualifications
• A Degree in social sciences.
• Minimum of three years’ experience of working in policy advocacy
• Good working awareness of CSO space and health policy and legislative environment in Kenya and the region
• Good understanding of the program cycle
• Excellent research, interpretation, and critical analysis skills to evaluate context, data, and legislation.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong and broad stakeholder relationships
• Excellent writing, analytical, and verbal skills
• Ability to work as part of a diverse and multicultural team.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
• Adaptability, high level of autonomy, good organizational skills
• Willingness to travel to Counties
