About

Lifeline Gedo is a national non-governmental organization dedicated to helping the vulnerable people of Gedo Region.

In 2005 a group of community leaders from Gedo Region gathered to discuss the state what they saw around them, beginning a dialogue on what was needed to respond to the void of services supporting the humanitarian crisis that existed at that time.

Through that dialogue and leadership, Lifeline Gedo was formed, with a mandate to respond to the humanitarian emergencies plaguing the Gedo Region, and to provide lifesaving support through the development of an organization with the technical, operational and financial capacity to create a sustained difference in this part of the world.

To begin their work, the diaspora of Gedo Region raised an incredible $160,000 USD to support the founding of LLG and the initial work to develop projects in the community, that cornerstone funding carried the organization forward, to enable its growth and financial sustainability.

LLG is locally focused, with a mission to build the capacity of the vulnerable people of Gedo Region, including the local institutions that support the welfare of citizens. LLG is focused on developing mechanisms of self-reliance based on the resources available within the region, and through the principles of good governance, gender equality, peacebuilding, conflict resolution and respect for human rights.
