Our Client, is an organization that is passionate about connecting consumers and businesses to financial services through technology by developing simple solutions to empower customers access a wide range of financial products through USSD, App and Responsive Web applications; They serve a diverse customer base ranging from sole proprietorships, FMCG manufacturers, distributors and retailers, Sacco’s, banks, insurance underwriters and agencies, fuel stations, schools, hospitals, and many more.
Job Purpose
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with various departments across the business. This is a key role that combines hands-on accounting work with strategic financial oversight.
- This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic Fintech environment and can balance both execution and advisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead timely and accurate bookkeeping and financial data aggregation across all business units within the organization.
- Prepare weekly cash flow reports, monitor operating balances, and alert management to liquidity risks.
- Handle month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and management accounts.
- Prepare and reconcile supplier and customer statements monthly.
- Ensure statutory deductions and tax filings (PAYE, VAT, Withholding Tax, and Income Tax) are completed accurately and submitted on time via KRA platforms.
- Generate operating budgets, track expenditures, and support financial planning processes.
- Maintain proper documentation and archiving financial records in accordance with company policies and tax regulations.
- Drive intercompany account reconciliations and ensure accurate reporting across subsidiaries or related entities.
- Monitor and report on key P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow drivers, and proactively provide financial insights and remedial suggestions.
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure alignment with budget controls and financial policies.
- Support external audit processes, preparing required schedules and acting as the primary liaison for audit queries.
- Assist in developing and updating internal financial policies, SOPs, and controls in collaboration with the Finance Manager.
- Champion revenue assurance efforts, particularly around credit sales and collections oversight.
- Support finance automation efforts, working with tech teams to improve financial reporting and data access.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborates well with product, operations, and executive leadership.
- Act as a financial business partner to internal stakeholders to enhance visibility, accountability, and budgetary control.
Academic Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualifications (CPA-K, ACCA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in Fintech, financial services, or a fast-growing tech environment.
- Experience in tax regulations compliance on all tax heads.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and IAS.
- Experience with accounting software such as Zoho, Odoo, QuickBooks, Odoo or Sage.
- Familiarity with KRA systems (I Tax, TIMS), online banking, Mobile money merchant platforms.
- Prior experience with the big four professional firms a plus.
Competencies and Attributes/Skills
- Financial reporting and Analysis
- Thorough grasp of IFRS and IASs.
- Familiarity with CBK and CAK reporting and licensing requirements.
- Financial budgets and forecast preparation.
- Handling deferred income on lending and software monetization models.
- High level of thoroughness in handling audits and reporting.
- High professional ethics and ability to keep personal data and information confidential.
- Provides a fulcrum in policy development, process documentation and audit preparation.
- Ability to identify trends and anormally in financial data.
- Ability to communicate financial data and plan to non-financial teams.
