JOB DETAILS:

ROLE PURPOSE
The role holder will support the implementation of Impact study on Forecast-based Action (FbA) pilot project(s) in Nairobi. Through this project, Save the Children seeks to add value to the humanitarian ecosystem, filling the data and evidence gaps that prevent the sector from implementing systematic and effective FbA to protect children and their families' livelihoods, nutrition, and well-being. The post holder will coordinate all early warning and early action activities at the country level, including monitoring FbA trigger indicators, data collection and analysis and dissemination for decision making, leading response analysis and contingency planning, capacity building, liaising with other FbA actors and supporting teams who are implementing early action/anticipatory action interventions. He/she will specifically support Community Jameel FbA project with a wider lens on all other anticipatory action initiatives and discussions at the country level.
For this study, the Research Officer will work closely with academic researchers from university University of California, Santa Cruz and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey questionnaires, programming survey tools into SurveyCTO, conducting refining study design and survey plans, submitting and managing IRB and other research approvals, training and managing survey teams, monitoring field work using high frequency data checks, cleaning and analyzing data, assisting in the writing of project reports, and coordinating with key partners.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Program delivery - Operationalization of FbA initializes and programs
• Liaise with Principal Investigators and Research Manager in the design of survey questionnaires
• Work with the data manager to program survey tools using SurveyCTO, (Kobo) high-frequency checks and data flows
• Develop a data collection plan and protocols (procurement, logistics and route plan) and that ensures adherence to data collection budget.
• Assisting in coordinating relationships with, partner organizations and researchers
• Ensure the implementation of sufficient monthly monitoring and data collection and analysis in markets and change in context accordingly and as directed by the Technical specialist.
• Support FbA pilot related surveys (HEA, and Cost of diet) and MEAL activities, this includes coordination with communities and stakeholders, preparation of logistics and other support needed to collect the data.
• Conduct data analysis, drafting report and papers for dissemination.
• As assigned by your supervisor, perform other tasks, which are consistent with your level in the organization.
Coordination and Representation
• Represent SCI in relevant coordination meetings with the TS to disseminate information about FbA and HEA
Physical Requirements
• Ability and willingness to travel to various project sites as Covid situation permits.
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with government standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, business management, social sciences, public health, political science or related fields, Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum three years practical experience in research coordination/implementation in a large international non-governmental organization or other international relief/development body.
• Demonstrated proficiency in STATA and experience with data management, cleaning, and analysis.
• Experience with quantitative research, particularly with randomized controlled trials.
• Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills;
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
• Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
• Experience running a large-scale survey and managing the survey implementation and data entry process
• Experience with Computer-Assisted Interviewing is preferred, but not required
• Fluency and excellent communication skills in English language
• Experience of effective teamwork and outstanding inter-personal communication skills.
• Experience of coalition building and working with civil society actors to deliver change.
