JOB DETAILS:

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
• The Kenya Country Office is increasingly leveraging high-level field visits and events to support office-wide advocacy and resources mobilisation. This includes organising events to mark key moments/days such as World Children’s Day and the Children’s Devolution Conference. Furthermore, the office is continuing to host development partners roundtables and undertake field visits by UNICEF National Committees (Natcoms), media, celebrities and other supporters to gather compelling communication content for visibility and fundraising.
• Currently, an average of five visits and events are conducted every month involving national and county governments, key donors, development partners, celebrity and other supporters. These events and visits are important in raising awareness and for fundraising, especially during emergencies such as the ongoing climate crisis.
• As such, these activities require immediate extra communication support for the core Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP) team. In particular, we require high-quality photography, video, caption and quote collection from various events in Nairobi, donor round tables and field visits to support social media content collection, often at short notice.

Scope of Work: (see end note below [1]
• Provide specific communication support to the CAP Section and programme teams as appropriate, in order to ensure professional, timely and adequate coverage of events, visits, development partner roundtables, donor and UNICEF visibility and multi-media content collection, while working directly with the Communication Specialist and the Digital Officer.

We also expect that there will be other unplanned and short notice visits that require the consultant’s support and charged according to the consultant’s day rate, not to exceed the overall budget of the consultancy. The consultant will be required to take high-quality photos, edit and write quality captions describing the subject, location and context of the situation of the images.
• Provide photography and occasional iPhone video coverage for high-level field visits with senior country office management, Government, donors, celebrities, advocates and media, including BHA visit in September, UK Natcom in August and the German Goodwill Ambassador in quarter four. The consultant will also participate in recces prior to missions.
• Support filming crews on locations on selected planned videography missions in the CAP multimedia production planner. This will include equipment rigging, sound recording, lighting, crowd control, consent signing with beneficiaries, location scouting and identification and production of beneficiaries for filming. Given the unpredictable nature of ad-hoc content gathering and media visits, extra tasks may be assigned on an “as needed” basis, and charged according to the consultant’s day rate, not to exceed the overall budget of the consultancy.
• Produce human-centred iPhone videos of beneficiaries, staff, celebrity supporters and donors while on location, in addition to photography coverage during events and visits as appropriate. This will include setting up sound, directing, framing, shooting, editing and packaging of the videos at a high standard for social media. These tasks will be assigned on an “as needed” basis and charged according to the consultant’s day rate, not to exceed the overall budget of the consultancy.
• Support in the organisation and execution of CAP-related external high level field visits including, the Garissa development partners round table in June/July, UK, German, Finland, Norway and Japan Natcoms content collection visits in 3rd and 4th quarter of 2023, and a UN multi-agency and Government trip to climate affected areas.
