Global Health & Healthcare Advisory Lead

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of investment professionals, maintaining responsibility for hiring, capacity building, performance management, and general team leadership duties
  • Lead business development across multiple channels, including private commercial opportunities and government/donor-sponsored opportunities
  • Provide continuous client coverage of private capital investors, development finance institutions (DFIs), corporates ranging from SMEs to MNCs, and other relevant organizations to proactively identify advisory opportunities
  • Manage relationships with key CrossBoundary clients, such as USAID; provide strategic input into program design and oversee mandate execution and reporting
  • Provide deal and project leadership and execution oversight to a wide range of transaction-related advisory engagement:
    • Investment target identification and screening
    • Investor identification and relationship building
    • Detailed commercial due diligence/vendor due diligence
    • Development and/or review of robust, multi-faceted corporate and/or project finance models, as well as models used for valuations analysis, market sizing, etc.
    • Development of investment memoranda and teasers
    • Recommendations on optimal transaction structures based upon near-, medium- and long-term company strategic objectives and capitalization parameters, available instruments, and investor preferences
    • Market assessment and ongoing market analysis
    • Blended and innovative finance structuring, with an emphasis on health outcome achievement
  • Lead brand-building by driving team participation at conferences and on panel discussions, developing thought leadership pieces, and other involvement in relevant initiatives that help grow our visibility

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration or Finance or other relevant advanced degree preferred (extensive relevant experience may be accepted as equivalent)
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, or similar, with a particular focus on healthcare
  • Experience living and/or working in underserved markets required
  • Exceptional management skills with an ability to serve as a coach and mentor to the team; can lead teams to results in challenging circumstances
  • High tolerance for ambiguity; ability to operate effectively through friction and opacity
  • Experience sourcing, advising on, and closing transactions in the healthcare sector
  • Great at building and maintaining relationships with colleagues and clients in the healthcare sector
  • Knowledge of corporate finance and project finance and familiarity with M&A processes, company evaluation, and valuation techniques
  • Knowledge of the global health financing ecosystem, and experience working with international organizations and government counterparts
  • Excellent quantitative skills and analytical abilities: can think clearly, structure problems logically, and then design and implement solutions that focus on the core issues
  • Superb presentation skills: ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders (including private equity firms, Development Finance Institutions, and development agencies) to support investments in high impact sectors
  • Self-starter who is humble and passionate about creating lasting change in underserved markets
  • Enthusiastic about working, traveling, and living in sometimes challenging environments
  • Understanding of project management principles and able to manage complex combinations of concurrent workstreams
  • Fluent in English. French skills beneficiary but not required

 

MBA Associate 2023

Who You Are

  • 4+ years in top tier banking, consulting, private equity, or similar
  • Current MA or MBA candidate
  • Self-starter who is passionate about creating lasting change in underserved markets
  • Excellent analytical ability and discipline; ability to think clearly, structure problems logically, and then design and implement solutions that focus on the core issues
  • Ability to build strong relationships with partners and colleagues in challenging environments
  • Exceptional presentation skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; preferably in fast-moving and entrepreneurial environments
  • Proficient in basic accounting, financial modeling, financial forecasting, and budget development
  • Deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities businesses face in frontier markets, as well as the macro-economic trends that impact them
  • Past exposure to Development Finance Institutions and/or development agencies is particularly relevant
  • Willing to take on new types of work, even without prior experience or direct supervision
  • Enthusiastic about working, traveling, and living in a challenging environment
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to operate effectively in a changing context
  • Humble
  • Direct experience working in location is a plus
  • Language proficiency in location is a plus

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leading transaction advisory work by:
    • Sourcing and evaluating potential investment opportunities
    • Sourcing and leading investor reach outs on behalf of companies’ management
    • Supporting transactions through due diligence and post-investment strategy
  • Conducting market assessment and ongoing trend analysis by:
    • Undertaking macroeconomic, regulatory, and operational assessments
    • Providing sector analysis of priority areas for investment
  • Driving CrossBoundary’s growth in new markets by:
    • Pitching and overseeing proposal responses for strategic new business opportunities which are aligned with CrossBoundary’s mission
    • Identifying and synthesizing key trends amongst our clients and the geographies which we serve 
    • Managing investor relationships

Energy Policy Director

Who You Are 

  • A seasoned policy expert, with 5+ years’ experience at a leading multinational professional services firm, policy research or consulting institution, or infrastructure firm, including experience on African energy projects 
  • An established ‘voice’ in the clean energy sector, with a record of success liaising with utilities or energy regulators to secure agreements or licensing to successfully implement power projects 
  • Experienced in advising or implementing distributed energy projects, as distinct from utility-scale (i.e., captive, commercial-industrial, mini-grids) 
  • Familiar with the key terms of power purchase agreements and the business models of independent power producers  
  • Skilled at creating and leveraging professional relationships across countries, personalities, and the political spectrum to achieve a positive impact. Comfortable in working in complex, and highly political environments, when needed 
  • Politically savvy; passionate about understanding the unique machinery of government in different countries, and understands that there is no one-size-fits-all policy solution  
  • Systematic and highly organized, you can track multiple activities across diverse workstreams while delivering results on time 
  • Ethical and highly principled; you hold yourself to rigorous international standards for anti-bribery and anti-corruption without exception 
  • You thrive in a non-hierarchical, collaborative environment and welcome input on your work from any teammate. There is nothing you’d task someone else to do that you wouldn’t do yourself 
  • Professional fluency in French 

Required Qualifications 

  • 3+ years’ experience at a leading multinational professional services firm, policy research or consulting institution, or infrastructure firm, including experience in highly regulated sectors in underserved markets 
  • 2+ years’ business experience in Africa or on Africa-based projects  
  • Specific insights and real-world experience about how policy engagement by private businesses can successfully shape national market environments 
  • Established network in the energy sector, including in CBE countries of operation 
  • Expert and professional communicator in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field 
  • Professional fluency in English 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Lead energy regulatory analyses across African countries to inform business development, project development, and investment decisions 
  • Support CBE direct engagements with energy regulators and policymakers across several jurisdictions, to negotiate successful acquisition of project permits needed to achieve CBE’s business goals 
  • In collaboration with the Head of Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs, work with policymakers to best practices and new ways of thinking about distributed energy to advance CBE's business interests and impact goals  
  • Maintain extensive practical familiarity with energy, investment, and corporate regulations across Africa to readily advise relevant project teams 
  • Summarize impacts of new and existing regulations to current renewable energy projects, then plan and manage rollout of any activities required to align with these standards  
  • Regularly evaluate policy risks to achieving business goals and single out top priority concerns. Summarize for management and investors and offer recommendations on how best to mitigate 
  • Maintain strategic relationships with senior local counsel to advise on new regulations 
  • Lead CBE relationships within the energy industry across several jurisdictions and ensure CBE Regulatory team has effective engagement with releavant associations and industry bodies, where useful. Leverage influence to build buy-in among competitors and cooperate in advocating policymakers and regulators for mutually beneficial sector-wide policies  
  • Manage CBE's internal database of laws and regulations across all markets, creating and overseeing processes to ensure that our information is current and relevant to project development teams 
  • Supervise local policy consultants on specific advocacy or project permitting objectives
