Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager

About the Opportunity

The MEL Manager will report to the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning.  He/she will ensure that the organization is able to generate meaningful data and information that lead to insights by collecting meaningful data and ensuring all data collection systems, protections, and processes are firmly in place.  

Specific responsibilities include:

Data Systems Management (30% time)

  • Lead continual improvements in collecting and managing company data, including working closely with the IT department and others to ensure a smooth flow of data within company systems.
  • Ensure data collection policies are ethical and meet standards of working with vulnerable populations and human data collection protocols. including data and privacy protections for all content
  • Coordinate and manage any third-party vendors and consultants for data collection.
  • Ensure safe and accessible storage of collected data in company technology systems (Odoo, Kobo, and other company technologies), and coordinate processes for these systems to “talk” to one another.
  • Work with department managers to develop M&E plans for new programs to meet reporting and learning requirements

Data Collection and analysis  (50% time)

  • Design criteria of data collection, tools, and processes ensuring adequate reliable information to generate significant insights
  • Work with Program leads to ensure that the data collection tools meet the end-reporting needs of various departments, donors, and partners.
  • Coordinate data analysis to document program progress, outputs, impact, and learnings, identifying trends that could provide meaningful insight.
  • Create theories of change for all new programs, and design data collection and reporting processes for each program. 
  • Manage, train and support M&E staff (in Kenya and beyond) on data management principles including; collection, quality assurance and analysis.
  • Develop and manage  focus groups studies and other qualitative analyses
  • Work with the head of research to ensure that the organization’s research initiatives are met
  • Coordinate external evaluators, consultants, and researchers to enhance independent impact assessments

Organizational Management (20% time)

  • Manage a subset of the M&E team to build a world-class team who meets global standards of evaluation, including hiring, reviews, and constructive feedback.
  • Serve as part of the Management team, providing advice and support on M&E data plans as the company grows
  • Work closely with Directors and Managers to ensure that the data systems are reliable and accessible to those who need them. 
  • Benchmark and propose/adopt best practices in line with MEL data collection and analysis and presentation initiatives 
  • Perform any other activities related to data collection and quality assurance as decided by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

The MEL manager will be a seasoned leader who has strong previous experiences in MEL and leading teams. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Technical expertise in tool development, data collection, data management protocols, analysis, and reporting.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Fluent in oral/written English and Kiswahili.
  • Willingness to innovate and ability to think systematically and work SMART
  • Proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Strategic thinker, proven team-building ability, and attention to detail.
  • Impeccable integrity and excellent communication (oral and written)skills 
  • Proactive and ability to work independently
  • 6+ years of professional experience in the MEL field

IT Tech Support Associate

About the Opportunity

The Tech Support staff will be in a new position, in a new 8-person Tech Department.   As Inkomoko has developed more technology systems to work from home and serve our clients remotely, we have needed to increase our ICT capacity to support internal IT functions and client-facing tech programs.   

The Tech Support staff will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service to colleagues across Rwanda and Kenya to support their technology needs.  Specifically, the role will include:

Responsibilities

Tech Support (40% time)

  • Manage and respond to IT requests using the IT Service desk management tool 
  • Continuous update of the IT Service desk knowledge base module 
  • Set up staff laptops, user accounts, email addresses, calendar access, and other company technology
  • Train staff on the use of company technologies, including Odoo ERP, G-Suite, calendars, printers, Basic IT Skills, etc.
  • Troubleshoot CRM/ERP and app problems for all users, particularly for high-value users like the Finance team, CEO/COO, and Managing Directors.
  • Provide tech support to staff with the highest level of customer service, speed, and accuracy when problems arise for in-house and field staff 
  • Make proactive regular visits to the field offices as and when required
  • Manage software upgrades 

Network Management (20% time)

  • Assist the IT Support team in the management of office internet issues and office IT accessories to meet budget and business needs for offices across East Africa.
  • Monitor the network on a daily basis; solve network problems as they arise, escalating problems or potential problems to the IT Infrastructure Admin, if necessary.
  • Maintain the network configuration map and documentation of issues and solutions.
  • Enforce Inkomoko ICT policy/usage with staff (i.e. personal downloads, etc.)
  • Ensure Malware/virus protection is up to date on a bi-weekly basis to protect systems and data. 
  • Work on other projects as assigned that improve systems availability and security.  

Equipment Management (20% time)

  • Purchase and manage staff laptops, printers, Tablets, Kindles, projectors, and all other technical assets within budget and specified timelines.
  • Conducting quarterly preventive maintenance on all IT devices 
  • Keep accurate records of inventory and maintenance of all devices and ensure they are in good working order.
  • Management of all repairs of staff laptops including the use of a system to track the repair of all computers, including the timeline for repair.

Miscellaneous Tech Supports (20% time)

  • Support M&E software, such as Kobo Toolbox, PowerBi, and other data collection and analysis software
  • Manage company Zoom accounts, collaboration applications such as Slack, and microphones, and serve as tech admin lead at company meetings
  • Manage projectors, tech setups for meetings, special events, retreats, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three +  years of work experience in tech support for a company in East Africa 
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or a similar field
  • Technical Expertise - Continuously updates one’s own knowledge about new technologies and product modifications.
  • Staff Support – Customer-service orientation to propose and create long-term technology solutions to solve team problems.
  • Fluent in English, plus Swahili
