JOB DETAILS:

Job Description
Cross Boundary is recruiting a full time Analyst to support CBEA’s investment management team. As a member of the CBEA investment team, you will be involved in fundraising, project due diligence and investment, investment management and risk mitigation workstreams. A significant part of the role will be supporting the second iteration of CBEA’s Open-Source project. This will involve developing template project finance contract term sheets, a template project model, an updated white paper on CBEA’s financing approach, and launching an investor group to iterate and improve on these materials.

Candidates should have notable investment or private sector experience and possess strong quantitative and analytical skills. Experience working in developing countries is preferred. Experience working in project finance, renewable energy, retail energy markets, and/or off-grid energy is also preferred.

Who We Are
The chosen candidate will play an important role in a unique team with the opportunity to make a large impact on the energy access and renewable energy landscapes in Africa, bringing first-time grid quality power to 1 million people. Team members come from diverse backgrounds, but share a number of qualities: curiosity, humility, integrity, a drive for excellence, and a bias for action.
CBEA is a small team, so we are looking for someone with a flexible skillset that can be adapted to add value across all of the team’s various activities. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, able to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, and passionate about energy access and renewable energy.

Who You Are
• Self-starter who is passionate about creating lasting change within the energy sector in underserved markets
• Background and interest in energy and/or investment in underserved markets
• Excellent attention to detail, but are solution-oriented and able to operate in situations where information is scarce, and the environment is constantly changing
• Comfortable managing multiple work streams simultaneously, and can prioritize and effectively deliver on tasks
• Willingness to take on new types of work, even without prior experience or direct supervision

Primary Responsibilities
• Fundraising: support the preparation and management equity and debt capital raising materials and processes, including project finance models, presentations, investment memoranda, and due diligence Q&A
• Project due diligence and investment: Rigorously assess energy access project investment opportunities and ensure alignment with portfolio objectives, return requirements, and risk appetite
• Investment and capital commitment: support the investment team to vet and identify investment opportunities
• Portfolio management: Support management of CBEA’s investment portfolio, including portfolio model upkeep, tracking the progress of projects in the pipeline, and investment performance monitoring
• Risk mitigation: Support the identification and mitigation of investment risks
• Open Source: project manage the second iteration of CBEA’s Open-Source project

Qualifications
• The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
• Strong quantitative skills; familiar with valuation, project finance, and financial modelling
• Professional exposure to, training in, or academic knowledge of:
• Accounting
• Tax, legal, and corporate structuring considerations
• Contract review and/or commercial negotiations
• Experience in or understanding of working in African markets, particularly in the energy sector
• A critical thinker, current on global events, who is intellectually stimulated to work at the confluence of energy and power, geopolitics, economics, and the environment
• Working proficiency in French

Required skills and qualifications:
• Native-equivalent English fluency
• 2 - 5 years in top-tier banking, infrastructure investing, project development, or similar
• Demonstrated professional experience in:
• Corporate and project finance
• Advanced financial modelling
• Due diligence and investment analysis
• Fundraising and/or transaction execution
• Excellent presentation skills: ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
• Excellent written communication skills
• Experience working in developing countries will be regarded favourably
• Think you have what it takes but are not sure you check every box? If you're passionate about what we're building, we want to hear from you!
