About the Job
The Import – Export (IMPEX) Officer is responsible for ensuring that all imported, exported and in-transit goods are shipped accordingly and the stipulated local and global practices and guidelines are adhered to.

This is a grade B2, national/resident position based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Receives and facilitates freight/cargo movement out of the country or region of assignment in collaboration with external commercial partners
· Obtains relevant exemptions from national or regional authorities for goods imported by the ICRC
· Is responsible for filing and archiving of import-export documents
· Ensures that records for in and outbound cargo are available and up to date
· Verifies invoices from customs and freight-forwarders and submits them to the supervisor
· Highlights any issues and irregularities in import-export activities
· Supports the Logisticians in handling claims
· Takes part in selection of external logistics providers (freight forwarders and carriers)
· Ensures that the prevailing customs regulations are communicated and applied
· Ensures compliance with established financial procedures especially on authorization of expenditure and approvals
· Adheres to the reporting and claim procedures in accordance with ICRC guidelines

Minimum qualifications and required competencies
· Bachelors degree in Purchasing and Supply Management or equivalent qualifications in relevant field of study
· Certification in clearing and Forwarding
· 5 years’ experience in clearing and forwarding in a busy environment
· Proven knowledge of Customs and Import-Export Procedures
· Valid IATA Dangerous goods regulations certification
· Highly organized with excellent planning skills
· Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent command of English language
· Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment
· Solid experience in data management and familiar with various databases/software
