Job Summary
This position is responsible for identification of applicable environmental regulations and risks and to formulate and implement acceptable environmental policies and systems to ensure compliance and conformity to national and county laws and also responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies that promote sustainable development.
Duties and responsibilities
• Implementation of County environmental work plans
• Ensure compliance and enforcement of environment regulations within the County
• Developing and updating of County environmental database
• Mobilizing the public to participate in environmental conservation, tree planting and management activities within the County
• Development and determination of permissible levels of exposure to environmental contaminants
• Collaborating with community and other stakeholders in environmental conservation activities
• Develop and conduct programs to manage county resources with regards to the environment.
• Oversee the inventory, use, and maintenance of equipment and facilities used for environmental management.
• Implement policies and regulations related to environment in the county
• Lead and direct the delivery of strategies to ensure the conservation, management and promotion of all aspects of the natural, historic and coastal environment of the county.
• Represent the department on different forums related to environment and natural resources
• Prepare write ups, presentations and reports related to the environment and naturalv resources of the County.
• Determine the best possible solution for environment protection
• Monitoring health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace
• Ensuring that the directorate is legally compliant with all health and safety legislation
• Liaising with NEMA on environmental matters
• Ensuring compliance and enforcement of environmental regulations
• Coordinating implementation of EIA and EA process in County Projects
• Inspection and compliance of environmental EIA/EA regulations
• Assist in the formulation of policies, procedures, plans for existing, and new natural resources management programs and ensure the evaluation and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations
• Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health and conservation
• Establish monitoring and evaluation systems for the environmental section goals
Requirements for appointment
• A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Climate Change and Climate Systems; Meteorology, Environmental Science/Natural Resources, Environmental Studies and Natural Resource Sciences or related fields from a recognized university
• At least three (3) years of relevant working experience
• Member of Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK)
• EIA expert registered with NEMA
• Certificate in computer applications from a recognized Institution
• Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010

Level of Education: Bachelor Degree
