Job description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Kenya, the CPS contributes to the transformation of violent conflicts in the context of social inequalities. The programme supports civil society and governmental partner organisations that are committed to strengthening civil conflict transformation through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, the establishment of dialogue structures and psychosocial support services. Further, since 2014, CPS also runs the special initiative “Preventing Displacements – Reintegrating IDPs”. It focuses on reconciliation between Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as Refugees and host communities, strengthening cooperation between IDPs/refugees, host communities and government, as well as advocacy and legal awareness raising.
Your tasks
• Tailor-made trainings on peacebuilding for peace committees and other target groups on conflict transformation, mediation, gender, dialogue, mental health and psychosocial support etc.
• Participate and follow up on peacebuilding activities being implemented in collaboration with partner organisations
• Conduct regular regional peace and conflict analysis
• Development of training materials and – if need be – web-based training formats
• Advise GIZ-CPS team and selected partner organisations on peacebuilding and capacity development strategies
Your profile
• University degree and/ or work experience in peace education, capacity development, especially on community related peace structures, or equivalent qualification
• Significant experience working in difficult field environments, including conflict and post-conflict countries
• International working experience in development-peace building projects
• Experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Do No Harm Approach and conflict sensitivity
• Excellent knowledge on interactive adult training methods
• Possesses knowledge and experience in Early Warning and Early Response Mechanisms/Systems
• High level of tolerance and adaptabilit and inter-cultural sensitivity
• Fluency in English, willingness to learn Swahili is of advantage
