JOB TITLE: Carbon Market Director - Africa Region
Your Position With Tnc
The Carbon Markets Director, Africa Region, leads TNC's work on Carbon Markets in Africa and seamlessly with our global teammates and the director of our Tackle Climate Change priority at TNC. This position will work with TNC's partners to continue to design, build and strategically invest in NCS projects in Africa in our key geographies and with projects that are able to scale and deliver large scale climate and biodiversity outcomes. This position will have a team of colleagues to help with execution, including working closely with the Africa Forest Carbon Catalyst Director Reporting to the Africa Regional Managing Director, the position will be based in one of our larger offices (Nairobi, Arusha, Cape Town, or Lusaka

Essential Functions
The Carbon Markets Director, Africa region, leads the region's engagement with carbon market participants - including project developers, carbon buyers and policymakers. They coordinate closely with senior level colleagues to align, implement, and actively manage the program. They are a key focal point for topical expertise on carbon markets for the region. They work to develop a dotted line network of carbon and climate change experts across TNC and with external partners and work to support the development of the staff whom they actively manage. Most importantly, they will need to work closely with the Africa Forest Carbon Catalyst Director - who heads a program focused on building a portfolio of carbon storage and habitat protection projects that offer scale, impact and durable lasting outcomes for people and nature. This position will help drive fundraising and strategic communications with support from TNC Africa functional teams.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Resource Management or related and 10 years of related experience or equivalent combination in a carbon financing/ carbon project development role
Experience leading and managing complex projects and strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment
Deep knowledge of African environment and of African carbon projects and enterprises
Project management experience and experience meeting deadlines
Experience developing end products with software such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, cloud and web-based tools including SharePoint, WebEx/conferencing software, Skype, Google Hangouts, and DropBox or other similar tools
