Advisor II, Business Development

SUMMARY
The Advisor, Business Development, a member of the Global Business Development Matrix Team, will strengthen the business development capacity of Country Offices (COs) and act as proposal manager on large, complex awards.
He/she will also be the lead BD Advisor for new types of donors, including supporting Foundation cultivation, multilateral engagement, mission cultivation, co-investment funding opportunities and other types of donors. He/she will be the thought leader to lead organizational goals to diversify and grow new types of donors and ensuring the organization has aligned capacities for this work.
He/she will strengthen business development staff capacity by developing materials, sharing lessons learned, advising on best practices and facilitating trainings. The Advisor will work in collaboration with technical and other staff on capture planning, pre-positioning, partnership development and proposal management and preparation. The Advisor will support use of ChildFund’s web-based grant management system of record (Salesforce). This position requires international travel.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Positioning and Visibility
• Undertake business development research to help position ChildFund and guide pipeline planning in COs for global funding opportunities.
• Lead on the documentation of success stories, best practices and lessons learned in ChildFund’s current portfolio of grants and contracts.
• Support CO staff to produce quality business development support materials, i.e., capacity statements, CO profiles and past performance references.
• Lead the training of CO staff to analyze grant funding pipelines and provide advice on actions to strengthen pipeline.
• Lead on the development and articulation of CO grant projection exercises.
• Attend industry events related to international development.
Proposal Development
• Serve as Proposal Manager for large grant opportunities. Create and maintain proposal calendar, create email and other communication lists and be the central point of contract, schedule and lead proposal development meetings, and raise issues of concern to Director, Business Development, Country Director and others, as appropriate.
• Support COs to conduct competitor analysis, develop win themes and technical design/approach, identify and negotiate with proposal partners, identify qualified staff, determine the cost/pricing strategy, prepare management plans and proposal production.
• Coordinate and collaborate with the technical specialists, M&E advisors, finance staff, HR and other departments for needed proposal inputs.
• Assist with identifying and engaging consultants for proposal writing or other roles, as needed.
• Assist with writing and/or editing of proposal sections, as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.
Capacity Building
• Coach, mentor and train CO staff on ChildFund’s business development processes, procedures and proposal development strategies, from capture planning to finalizing proposals.
• Lead on the development of business development support tools, facilitate trainings and builds capacity of CO staff on use of tools and adherence to key processes for pre-positioning, capture planning and proposal development
• Develop training materials for ChildFund staff in proposal development
• Train CO staff on the use of ChildFund’s grant management system (Salesforce) for tracking opportunities from capture to award

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• At least 5 years of relevant business development experience with international development organization(s) both for direct implementation of tasks and for mentoring colleagues.
• Demonstrated knowledge of US Government grant development processes and rules and regulations
• Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of USG donors (i.e. USAID, DOL, State, etc.), other bi-lateral donors (EC, DFID), multilateral, foundations, and other institutions’ grant making initiatives, policies, procedures, grants management processes, and regulations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cultivation and proposal development of donors beyond USG.
• Knowledgeable and track record of creating competitor analysis, developing win themes and technical design/approach, identifying and negotiating with proposal partners, preparing management plans and packaging proposals.
• Demonstrated prior experience preparing large multi-million-dollar proposals.
• Proven communication and interpersonal skills in a multicultural work environment
• Demonstrated representation and networking experience with multilateral agencies, foundations, and other grant funding donors
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
• Flexible, adaptable and detail oriented.
• Willing to roll up sleeves and be hands on.
• Team player
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and is resourceful.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Suite of applications, including Word, Advanced Excel skills, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, Sharepoint, One Drive and Adobe
• Extensive international travel is required.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in q second language (French or Spanish) is preferred
• Experience with Salesforce or other grant management software preferred
• Having lived and worked in a developing country is strongly preferred.

EDUCATION
Bachelors degree in a relevant field is required. Masters degree in a relevant field is preferred.
