JOB DETAILS:
If you are someone who has a robust understanding of the needs of adolescent girls, grounds their thinking in best practice standards and applies this knowledge in creative and innovative ways, this could be the job for you.
• Experience in programming, youth work and/or activism that supports adolescent girls and young womens' participation.
• Experience building and implementing inclusive systems and processes for young people's engagement, including an understanding of challenges and barriers faced.
• Experience of managing risk, budgets, staff resourcing, timelines and other logistics across multiple projects, and to differing stakeholders
• A curious and enthusiastic learner who loves to dive into a topic to learn as much as you can as quickly as you can
• An organiser who enjoys getting things done and making sure others do the same
• A strong communicator and confident writer who strives for clarity and simplicity while navigating ambiguity and diverse perspectives
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain meaningful and supportive relationships across the team in order to deliver successful projects

What You'll Do
Programme Design and Implementation
• Lead Youth Participation technical support for all programmes and partnerships in Kenya. For example but not limited to programme design, research and co-creation workshops with young people.
• As required, support proposal development and donor reporting.
Youth Advisory Panel (YAP)
• Lead the design and implementation of the YAP in Kenya, including its project management (work plans, timelines, contracting, invoices).
• Facilitate regular training, well-being support and mentoring of YAP members to enhance their work capacity and skills.
• Support Girl Effect staff and partners to develop youth-friendly briefings, project materials etc. to ensure YAP members clearly understand their deliverables.
Youth Feedback Mechanisms
• Implement regular 2-way communication and feedback loops with YAP members. For example, anonymous boxes/surveys, performance appraisals, meetings to ensure YAP members understand how their feedback has been embedded in our work (and if not, why).
• Improve and iterate Girl Effect's approach to YAP based on insights from CYP & GE staff.
Youth Participation Mainstreaming
• Support internal Youth Participation mainstreaming efforts. This includes but is not limited to posting on Slack, internal training sessions, convening lunchtime talks and developing the global newsletter.
• Support tracking and annual reviews of youth participation activities in Kenya, feeding into global reporting.
External Engagement & Communication
• Support the global communications team to collect/create Youth Participation storytelling moments, and involve young people in the development of our external communication messaging, as appropriate.
• Keep up to date with trends on youth participation across different networks and organisations in Kenya and seek potential learning & fundraising opportunities.
