The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) was founded in 2009 and is a platform for African Heads of State and Government working to end malaria on the African continent by 2030 Al African Union Member States belong to ALMA, ALMA's vision is aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063, the African Union's Catalytle Framework to End AIDS, TB and Eliminate Malaria and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
ALMA works to enhance accountability for results in malaria, neglected tropical diseases and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health with the use of the scorecard accountability and action tracking mechanism at continental, regional, national, sub-national and community levels. ALMA works to sustain political and leadership commitments, and supports countries to track progress, identify bottlenecks and take action In addition, ALMA works with African countries to establish End Malaria Councils and Funds to sustain political and leadership commitments at country level.
The ALMA Heads of State and Government have charged the ALMA Secretariat with supporting them in achieving their mission and vision. ALMA is headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and has an office in New York City, U.S.A.
The Youth, Communication and Advocacy Technical Advisor will be seconded to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kenya and will support the Ministry's Internal and external communications strategy for molarla aimed at ending malaria. This includes, supporting advocacy and public communication to promote the ALMA Chai's four point legacy agenda, resource mobilisation and accountability to eliminate malaria in Africa by 2030. This will be achieved through working with the malaria program and senior management at the Ministry of Health, sector ministries and partners to develop core youth, advocacy and communication materials and support event management.
The Youth Communication and Advocacy Technical Advisor will report primarily to the Head Division of the National Malaria Program.
Job Profile:
The TA will be responsible for raising awareness about the Kenya's malaria programme and activities as well as the ALMA Chair's legacy agenda. .

The main duty and responsibilities are:
Programme Communications for advocacy and awareness
• The TA will work closely with the malaria program and the Ministry of Health, to develop a communication strategy that ensures relevant program communication materials such as Press Releases, Op Eds. Feature Stories, Social Media Messages, factsheets, Infographics among others are developed and disseminated to relevant stakeholders and target groups through relevant media and network channels.
Media Relations
Develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, electronic (TV, radio, web etc) to increase coverage of malaria control issues in the media (print, broadcast and digital). Organise press conferences, media briefings and exclusive media interviews for senior leaders in the Ministry of Health Specific activities include:
• Draft and edit newsletter articles, press releases, information and advocacy briefs, PowerPoint presentations, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials.
• Collaborate with the media by organizing activity site visits; facilitate photo coverage and TV footage utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate.
• Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials Maintain a library of media coverage, clippings etc.
• Work with the authorised Ministry officials and spokespersons to respond to media inquiries and arrange interviews
Digital Communications/Social media
• Support the malaria program to maintain the website and social media sites [Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others) through monitoring posting and content development.
• The TA will support the malaria program develop and archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
Partner Relations
• Develop and maintain an updated list of malaria stakeholders and special interest groups. Events/campaigns
• Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote strategic goals. Support organization of workshops, seminars, campaigns, events and program review meetings including agendas and meeting minutes.
Monitoring and evaluation
• Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences. Goals and targets for this consultancy will be developed in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health and the maloria program at the outset of the consultancy.
Advocacy
• The TA will work with malaria advocates at the Ministry of Health, regional economic blocs and the end malaria council to communicate, conduct Interviews and respond to inquiries from the public and media about malaria
Youth Agenda
The TA will work with the malaria program and ALMA to:
• Establish a Kenya youth advisory and advocacy group.
• Develop a network of young leaders to integrate malaria and universal health coverage into existing advocacy activities.
• Develop communication and advocacy materials on the youth agenda to enhance public support.
• Support content development for toolkits and material for youth leadership training.

Minimum Qualification and other Requirements:
• The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success developing and executing media campaigns, be a self-starter, possess a positive attitude and have strong writing and presentation skills with familiarity and ease working across a variety of online, cloud and mobile platforms. Education: Advanced Degree in communications, Journalism, public relations or a related field. Specialty in health communication (preferred)


Terms of Engagement:
• The consultancy will be for a period of one year with the successful candidate expected to work for 10 working days per month. In addition, the successful candidate will develop a work plan with agreed activities and timelines for 12 months and produce quarterly reports against set deliverables.


Experience:
• At least 5 years similar work experience
• Knowledge and experience using a variety of social media platforms.
• Experience working with Governments and multilateral institutions (preferred]
• Proficiency in written and oral English and Kiswahili.
• Advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher)
• Design and layout skills necessary. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or other design packages will be an added advantage.
