About the role
Vice Presidents are the senior most leaders at Busara and responsible for setting the overall strategy, vision and direction for the areas that they oversee. Vice Presidents have a bold and creative vision for Busara and carve out new pathways for both sustainability and growth for the organization. They also serve as the organization’s communicators and translators, advocating for, building partnerships for, and representing Busara within the larger development and researcher communities.
The Vice President for Projects will lead new areas of the application of behavioral science in poverty alleviation. Specifically, they will manage a team of Engagement Directors and work with their project portfolios and leverage your own relationships and work to develop new projects and areas of work, deliver amazing work that has impact, and disseminate that work to the broader behavioral science and development community.
Your responsibilities will be to:
• Purposeful project development and project selection that is strategic and forward thinking in order to build and maintain a financially sustainable portfolio of applied behavioural science to meet revenue and sales targets
• Placing our learnings in the broader behavioural science and development discourse and communicating these internally and externally
• Networking and convening partners, funders and peer organizations
• Deepen and cultivate relationships with research institutions, funders, government and other actors within the behavioural science research community and the area of your work.
• Develop and direct the vision and strategic implementation plan for an agenda of work which you have experience in.
• Amplify our voice on substantive, theoretical and topical applied areas through:
• Serve as a senior relationship manager for critical clients and partners. Understand and pre-empt needs of stakeholders through strategic intervention with your Engagement Directors.
• Structure durable systems to standardize project onboarding and offboarding exercises to support knowledge management between projects.
• Oversee the development of new approaches and toolkits for the organization
• Coordinate with Vice Presidents and Directors from other divisions to consolidate and streamline our impact.
• Manage, motivate, and coach a team of Directors, Associates and Analysts
• Serve as a member of the Executive team and drive the overall strategy, direction and sustainability of Busara.
To do this well, you should:
• Be a visionary leader who is passionate about Busara’s mission and work and wants to amplify their own work through Busara
• Have proven capability in building collaborations with research and practitioner communities, especially in the Global South.
• Demonstrate track record of securing funding to support a large team ($2M or more). Demonstrated ability to help others secure funding is a plus.
• Be an excellent communicator with experience advocating for behavioural science in development in easy to digest ways, through writing, speaking and presenting
• Have ample experience working in diverse environments with scientists and practitioners alike, understanding a wide variety of perspectives to achieve a goal.
• Have an established track record of personally executing and supervising multiple applied behavioural science projects globally.
• Be a strong motivator, listener and enabler of other senior leaders
• Have managed teams of 15+ people before
• Have served on senior leadership or executive teams in the past
