Study Nurse
Background: Africa Mental Health Research and Training Foundation (AMHRTF) is a non-governmental organization in Kenya, dedicated to research in mental and neurological health as well as substance use research to generate evidence for policy and best practice in the provision of affordable, appropriate, available and accessible mental health services.
Position Summary: Study Nurse will be part of our youth-led youth-oriented mental health care program and delivery system that integrates two essential elements: 1) a rigorously tested evidence-based mental health intervention (the Shamiri, or “Thrive!” in Kiswahili, intervention) that includes simple, empirically supported psychological elements, uses stigma-free, culturally appropriate content, and 2) dissemination in secondary schools by youths trained as lay-providers and integration into a three-tier mental health care model that brings together youth lay-providers and expert clinicians and psychiatrists. The study nurse will collect, for each participant, a series of mental health, physical health, wellbeing, and academic outcomes. The study nurse will report to the Project Officer.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Adhere to human research regulatory standards and ethical standards
• Administer questionnaires to study participants
• Collect sensitive health information from research participants according to the study protocol
• Take anthropometric measurements of participants (blood pressure, weight, height, hip, waist)
• Monitor and debrief research participants to ensure accurate responses
• Maintain detailed records of study participants
• Ensure the necessary supplies and equipment for a study are in stock and in good working condition
• Engage with research participants to understand their concerns related to collected psychological, psychosocial, and health data
• Refer participants as needed for additional medical care
• Provide participants with thorough explanations before obtaining Informed Consent and provide participant education and feedback on an ongoing basis

Requirements:
• Qualified as Kenya Registered Nurse/Midwife OR Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse OR have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
• He/she should have experience in patient assessment, care, and referral.
• Experience working in a research environment, training and experience in research will be an added advantage.
• He/she should have basic computer training particularly in Microsoft Office applications and good IT skills.
• The applicant should possess fluent writing and communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
• Demonstrate interest in helping others and ensuring their confidentiality, fair treatment, safety, and wellbeing.
• Possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills; show that you are highly responsible.
• Possess strong time management skills and a strong sense of punctuality.
• Possess report writing skills.
• Proficient in English and Kiswahili
• Mental health training may be an added advantage.

Must Have:
• An uptodate practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
