JOB DETAILS:
Senior Litigation Associate
Job Purpose:

To settle disputes in the most appropriate & efficient manner, whether by litigation, mediation, adjudication or arbitration.

Role summary
• To ensure that the firm’s clients are satisfied.
• To ensure the firm is profitable by consistently producing monthly personal billings worth at least six times your salary.
• To successfully promote the firm’s brand visibility & reputation internally and externally.
• Achieve your KPIs.
• Deliver & optimize the Firm’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high quality legal services to the firm’s clients, predominantly in relation to Client disputes. i.e Successfully resolve their disputes -By offering advice on the law, legal procedures and a wide range of associated issues.
• Successfully suing, defending and negotiating settlements for clients.
• Conduct own Dispute Resolution matters and assist other advocates and partners in providing innovative advice and representation to the firm’s clients.
• Work in accordance with detailed procedures and quality standards contained office handbook and relevant procedures contained in the server and practice management tool.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Ensure services are provided in a timely fashion and the client is informed regularly on progress and costs.
• Achieve targets for billing and time recording.
• Take overall responsibility for credit control on own matters.
• Develop and maintain good client relationships.
• Carry out duties in a professional manner, comply with relevant professional standards and any requirement set by relevant regulators including the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
• Develop and maintain the competencies necessary to provide a proper standard of service to clients and maintain a record of professional development.
• Share information, knowhow and best practice with colleagues.
• Adhere to and promote the firm’s equality and diversity policy.
• Establish what needs to be done to solve a client’s problems.
• Achieve the departments’ strategies and targets.
• Winning new business from existing and potential & high-profile clients.
• Ensure efficient department operations.
• Ensure the teams observation and successful implementation of policies and quality standards.
• Have a visible reputation amongst peers & business fraternity as a top-notch quality advocate.
• Attend & organise conferences, trade shows and other networking events.
• You are now expected to be a role model for others in the business. This means you need to put your own personal agenda aside and always consider what the right thing is for the firm.
• Lead & Mentor the department’s associates & support staff to achieve the firm’s strategic objectives.
• Accountable for the department’s customer satisfaction levels.
• Receive requests for legal advice from current and potential clients and decide on the most appropriate responses to make to these requests.
• Take overall responsibility for achieving billing targets for the departments’ matters.
• Develop, Conduct & Participate in high profile interview series.
• Ensure resolution of Human Resource issues in accordance with the firm’s policies and with the assistance of the Human Resources Manager.
• Ensure updated and accurate reports are delivered on a weekly basis to the Partner on firm strategy & departmental projects & operations.
Knowledge, skills and qualifications

Qualified advocate
• Admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
• Kenya School of Law – Diploma in Law
• Undergraduate Law Degree (LLB) OR) Graduate Law Degree with upper second-class honours
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) OR A-Levels, IGSCE’S OR Relevant High School Diploma
• Minimum Grade B in both English & Mathematics
Experience & Expertise in key areas of law and procedure including: -
• Seven to eight years (Minimum 6+ years Post Admission) Litigation, Arbitration & Mediation Experience in a medium to large law firm or in-house department.
• Practice Experience in Banking, Finance, Insolvency, Pensions, Capital Markets, Commercial Agreements, Corporate, Construction, Environment, Employment & Benefits, Immigration, Real Estate, Intellectual Property, Data Protection, Projects & Tax.
