About the role
We are looking for an experienced and energetic software developer with a passion and flare for developing easy-to-use web-based user interfaces. Human-centred design and planning experience are important additional skills. We build using React and Javascript with the backend in Python on Google Cloud Platform. We closely track latest development and design practises.

Responsibilities
1. Development
1. Extend the Echo platform by developing easy to use, good looking & performan user interfaces
2. Develop and curate a library of components to help with UI consistency
3. Work directly with our support team, customers and vendors to address issues
4. Lead monitoring of Rollbar and other front-end analytics tools to resolve issues as they arise
2. Human-centred design
1. Lead the design of new features on the platform, collaborating with other team members to maximise simplicity and user flow. We use a human-centred approach, with user interviews, prototyping, design reviews and user tests
2. Provide quality control to ensure our interface is easy to use, targeting clear layout and hierarchy, good word choice and consistency
3. Planning
1. Work with commercial and engineering teams to decide which new features we will deliver to customers
2. Break down larger features, and, in collaboration with other engineers and customer support, and plan how to deliver the pieces in a way to streamline the delivery to customers

About you
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following skills and experience:
1. 4+ years of experience as a software engineer
2. Self-managed, proactive, and good at working with a small team
3. Passionate about technology, technical products and the creative process
4. Proficient at managing time to meet milestones
5. Experience in human-centred design techniques, including user interviewing, prototyping and user testing
6. Deep knowledge of web frontend user interface design and development using
7. JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, etc), HTML and CSS
8. Confident planner, able to break down complex features and schedule development work
9. Either living in Nairobi or willing to relocate
10. Fully available - this is a full-time role

Bonus skills

3. Interest & experience in backend development
4. Python, particularly server-side
5. Google Cloud Platform
6. Android development using Java or Kotlin - our Android app, Echo Agent, is written in these languages
